An American in China

Public Urination in China

Posted by wtdevflnt on August 3, 2010

Find Waldo is a book my niece and nephew used to play. Its the guy pictured here and the idea is that in each page of the book, Waldo is hiding and you must find him.
Public urination and defecation in China is like this. If one were to stand in the streets for five minutes for example, they will be witness to a host of spitting, and public urination, I am convinced.
Why am I on this rant? Well, it hit me yesterday as I left my apartment, I saw no less than two men urinating in front of my complex. Then, as I left for lunch, I saw a lady of about 35 pull down her kids pants and let the little girl urinate in the street in front of a few hundred people. The woman did not seem to be poor, and there were bathrooms all around us. Thus, I had an epiphany, if one could just stand and observer China, who knows how many such acts they will see in one day. As for me, I now walk with my camera in hand, ready for anything, I have learned my lesson.
