Another WTF in China Via hong Kong- Chinese Heads Shaped Differently Due to Sleeping Habits?
Posted by wtdevflnt on December 16, 2010
I get bored a lot, so when I do, I surf, half the time I have no idea how I wound up on any given site at any given moment, but check out the excerpt below. In the excerpt, a person from Hong Kong is caliming that Chinese have different head shapes due to the way they sleep, WHAT THE F==K? I am no doctor, and know even less about child development, but this person claims “The head is usually not as elongated as the Caucasians…. could be due to the supine-sleeping position2,12,25,26 resulting ….flattening … occiput rather than an oblong shape assumed by the head lying on its sides…” cutting through the BS, this person, who quotes his own earlier study, is saying that Chinese have different head shapes due to the fact they sleep on their backs? The odd thing is that this person gets published, he gets ink thus supporting his claim. I have photos of me as a kid and think that I loved to sleep on my back, as well as my niece and we have the characteristic ‘anglo head’. And is this guy’s claim is true, then why dont the Chinese who go to the west and presumably sleep like we do, have similarly shaped heads.
Maybe Im making too much of this, but it seems weiard , but I guess thats medicine in China. A place where ‘doctors’ will prescribe bug carapices for a runny nose, while telling you that the ‘cold air has entered yoru bones, and you must steam your skin with leechy nuts’ – I had a doc tell me this.
ok, so Im reserach this flat head thing and there is a ton of stuff, usually in the asian sites about the fact taht chinese have flat heads due to sleep position. Then I wiki it and voila…we remember that chinese are of the mongol or mongloid race, and it says “Mongoloids feature “absent browridges”.[27] Skulls belonging to East Asians and American Indians exhibit very forward-projecting malar bones and comparatively flat faces, more circular orbits than other groups, and a moderate nasal aperture with a slightly pointed lower margin.[28] Moreover, Mongoloid skulls are the most gracile in the human family. It is believed that the Mongoloid skull type is a very recent evolutionary development.[29] “The Mongoloid skull has proceeded further than in any other people.”[30] “The Mongoloid skull, whether Chinese or Japanese, has been rather more neotenized than the Caucasoid or European.”[30] “The female skull, it will be noted, is more pedomorphic in all human populations than the male skull.”[30]“
which basically means their heads are shaped like that due to genetics.
Here is the quote from the guy in Hong Kong
“At birth, the Chinese infant has a broader face, often with depressed nasal bridge (Table 1).1,2,5,10,15-24 He does not look “yellow”, as his skin pigmentation usually takes days, often weeks to establish. More than one in ten infants have up-slanting eyes. One in four has “low-set ears” by Western standard. The head is usually not as elongated as the Caucasians. This could be due to the supine-sleeping position2,12,25,26 resulting in flattening of the occiput rather than an oblong shape assumed by the head lying on its sides from the prone-sleeping posture.” Cy Yeung
