Understanding China, One Blog at a Time

An American in China

Microcosym of Life- Monopoly in China

Posted by w_thames_the_d on December 24, 2009

Last night played monopoly, Chinese monopoly ( I am sure Parker Bros. or whomever was adequately compensated for the useage of its name images etc.) Anyway, I played with a Chinese friend, and I am worried for America…
As the game wore on, I realized that America’s problems were worse than I had thought. I had more property than my friend, she really only had the red ones, but began to build houses and hotels. I was on a property buying spree, controlled both the green and orangish ones.
So there I sat, property rich, and she with a fist full of cash. Little by little, I was forced to mortgage my properites in order to remain solvent. By the end, she still had the fist full of cash, I had 70% of the properties but only could use 6 of them, I was in hock all the way up to my neck.
Needless to say, she won, took it too me, cash poor I was forced to sell what I had and take an ass kicking. I wonder if I just witnessed the future of America, or if I merely suck at Monopoly.
