Breakfast in China- Baozi

Posted by w_thames_the_d on January 28, 2010

China in terms of food is broken down into about 8 distinct areas. Beijing is by the northeast and thus has similar tastes to that area. The food is more bland than in Sichuan, and they favor noodles and Baozi ( like fried dumplings but not fried). Many here eat noodles or baozi for breakfast, or a fried shell with eggs lettuce and spices.

Dont Drink the Wat.. I mean Milk- Contamination Again

Posted by w_thames_the_d on January 28, 2010

Right, contaminated milk again- here. In the southern provinces, Guizho and Sichuan- some of the poorest provinces in China. Congrats for catching and reporting it, but a bit WTF??? for this comment

"Local dairy associations said that it was possible that the seizures were not due to new contamination, but instead because some tainted milk recalled in 2008 was still in the hands of dealers and that it was inevitable that such products would make their way "back into the market."

WTF??? So the product made it back into the market
-CONTAMINATED PRODUCTS ARE NOT DESTROYED, but merely left around for years in hopes that they will be forgotten?
-This stuff has a shelf life of a few years? It doesnt go bad- oh yeah, it is melamine, a poison, has a good shelf life.

Good job government for reporting, bad job distributors may you rot!

Self Control in China

Posted by w_thames_the_d on January 28, 2010

Chinese, in my opinion, have to be some of the most self-controlled people on the planet. I have blogged about them driving and accidents and such ( some of my friends disagree) but I have found that in comparison to the west, they are much less emotional. The impact would be more self control in all aspects of life, emotions, eating, purchasing, stating an opinion. Dont know if it is the way they are wired or a cultural thing, but the difference is great.

China Fact- Monied in China

Posted by w_thames_the_d on January 28, 2010

China has over 400 000 households worth over a million dollars. Caveat, this is an estimate- estimate wtf? They dont really know how much the people earn? (this is due to corruption etc. and failure to report actual earnings)

China Fact- No God Bless You’s

Posted by w_thames_the_d on January 28, 2010

In China you sneeze and what happens, nothing, they say nothing- no God bless you, nor bless you. It makes sense as it is not a Christian country; its just odd when it happens.

Fair to Fido- Dog off the Menu in China

Posted by w_thames_the_d on January 28, 2010

Actually, dog was banned from all menus in Beijing and other cities for the 2008 Olympics, and now it appears that China is being more strict on that rule, imposing up to a 5000 RMB (approx 700US) fine on restaurants that serve it. Kudos to the government on that one. I have actually seen it on the menu twice in Beijing- both times at Korean restaurants.
