Gotta Love the Whacky Math- Chinese Locals Cannot count!

Posted by w_thames_the_d on February 28, 2010

Below, this states that Beijing will begin to count the GDP of all provinces (gross domestic product- a measure of the value of all goods and services sold- and a meausrment used to promote officials), to ensure that the numbers are more correct. Ok, so Beijing, the home of the government whose official numbers 80% of Chinese do not believe, is now taking care of teh number tallying for every province. That is scary, like saying that the mice are the only ones we can trust to guard the cheese…

excpert, China Daily:

BEIJING: China’s top economic planning body has confirmed that China is considering bring local GDP under unified calculation in an effort to prevent local officials from cooking economic growth figures for political benefits.

Discord existed between the sum of provincial GDP figures and the national GDP statistics calculated by the National Bureau of Statistics, the National Development and Reform Commission said in a report to the Standing Committee of the 11th National People’s Congress (NPC).

The current GDP calculation mechanism, which asked local governments to calculate their own GDP and reported to the NBS for verification, inevitably led to such a result, the Commission said in the report.

The fundamental solution to solve the problem was to introduce the unified GDP calculation method, the Commission said.

Posted by w_thames_the_d on February 28, 2010

In continuing withe the post below, i will address the judiciary. I didn’t explain, but in the west, a judge must have a legal background, their job, after all is to be the experts in law, at least as far as administering justice. As was seen in the post below, China does not feel the same way, but is improving.

In 1997 80% of all judges had some level of college, which means at least attending classes at a junior college or trade school.

Spitting in China- Deng Xiao Ping would be kicked out!

Posted by w_thames_the_d on February 27, 2010

China has a huge problem with spitting. Everywhere men and women walk along and hack, stop and spit, I am not exaggerating. It covers the sidewalk, it is quite disgusting. Even the Chinese leader Deng Xiao Ping, spat during meetings, and not polite spitting but back home, country luggies.

so now some cities are proposing if you get caught spitting they will evict you:

From China Daily

GUANGZHOU: The poor could be booted out of government subsidized housing for frequent spitting under a draft plan being considered in Guangdong province.

The Guangzhou land resources and housing management bureau said that tenancy would be terminated if the tenant recorded too many “misdeeds” within a two-year period.

Under the draft punishment plan, believed to be the first of its kind on the Chinese mainland and resembling a marking plan in Hong Kong, misdeeds include spitting, littering and parking outside designated areas.

All misdeeds carry penalty points that vary depending on the seriousness of the offense. If the offender accumulates more than 20 points within two years, tenancy is terminated.

Spitting carries three points, which means the tenant could be evicted if he is caught spitting on seven occasions.

Xie Xiaodan, director of the Guangzhou land resources and housing management bureau, said affordable housing communities are an important public resource and the government must strengthen supervision.

The plan would ensure the fair and efficient usage of these resources, Xie added.
