Chinese Translators Suck!

Posted by w_thames_the_d on April 19, 2010

I am reviewing some work done by Chinese translators and it is incomprehensible. And before you go off on a liberal rant, here me out. These people are getting paid to do a job, and supposedly to do it well. Back home we hire foreigners to ensure that what we are translating has a certain level of quality. But here due to ignorance and arrogance, they believe that the typical Chinese who studied English can handle it. Sadly, they cant. Translating is hard, and here they tend to do it word-for word, which is the worst way possible. As I live here, I bitch about it. I have seen a ton of qualified foreigners who could do the job but the Chinese don’t want to pay them, so they end up with shit. If you see instance of it, complain to the company, its the only way they will change.

China Customs on the Cutting Edge

Posted by w_thames_the_d on April 19, 2010

Those crazy chicoms, they are actually doing their job at customs. Apparently they found it news worthy to publish the fact that fake goods being sent via mail are up 7 fold this year. To this rest of the world this is no shocker, but I guess it is China’s way of showing us they may be trying…. but in reality it is a yawner. As an example, you can still go to the silk street market to buy any fake goods that you want.

“Drastic increase due to rapid development of e-business: Customs

BEIJING — The country’s customs officials seized as many as 37,000 pieces of mails and express mails containing counterfeit items from June to December of last year, seven times the figure in the same period of 2008, the General Administration of Customs (GAC) said on Monday. The parcels were headed to 10 countries.

On opening the boxes, officers found more than 50,000 mobile phones, SD cards, flash drives and memory banks involving 12 brand names. The smuggling bid opened the customs department’s eyes to the seriousness of the infringement of intellectual property rights in the country.

Beauty and Older Chinese Women

Posted by w_thames_the_d on April 19, 2010

In general I am not a fan of Asian women, they do have some beauties, but its not my bag. But, I must say that even if it were, older Asian women do not wear well. One can find a ton of decent looking older women in just about all of the Americas, but in China, they all look like female golfers, yeah a serious dyke-effect. Short hair, androgynous builds, then again, like I said, I am not a fan, so maybe I am prejudiced.

Chinese Embarrassment- Neurosis in China

Posted by w_thames_the_d on April 19, 2010

Chinese are very neurotic especially when you try to talk to them about history or hu.man rights and what not. They take much of what you say as an attack on the motherland, which irritates them to no end. Even if they are a really good friend, they are likely to misunderstand your intentions.

In China, they have it beaten into their heads that before the formation of communist China, (a great marketing plot by the chicoms), before the advent of communist china, they were the laughing stock of the world, seen as losers , ignorant and backwards. Many said this as they came to the newly open China, maybe that is part of the reason for the neurosis. But anyway, if you come, just tell them how great it is, how advanced they  are, and don’t say anything negative, you will have a great time.
