China- 45 Year old Man Stabs Two at a Chinese Hospital

Posted by w_thames_the_d on June 11, 2010

In more violence at the hands of Chinese men over 40, a man from Jinan has killed a doctor and injured a nurse. The country is mystified as to why the sudden increases of violence is being metted out by the men in this demographic.

“JINAN – Police have detained a man who allegedly stabbed a doctor to death and injured a nurse at a hospital in east China’s Shandong Province. The 45-year-old man, surnamed Zhou, was caught after he stabbed a nurse around 7:20 a.m. Friday at Qilu Hospital of Shandong University, in Jinan, capital of Shandong, said Sun Lianhe, head of the criminal police detachment of Jinan City Public Security Bureau.

The woman was receiving emergency treatment, said a hospital spokesman surnamed Wang. The suspect, a resident in Lixia District of Jinan, stabbed a doctor in his fifties to death around 8 am one day earlier, Sun said.

Both victims worked with the hospital’s cancer center. An initial police investigation showed Zhou committed the attacks because he thought the hospital was to blame for his father’s death.

Zhou’s father was treated for liver cancer at the center 13 years ago, according to the investigation. He died after treatment failed. It was not known whether the victims were involved in the treatment of Zhou’s father, Sun said

Sinkhole in the Hinterlands of China

Posted by w_thames_the_d on June 11, 2010

Villagers shaken up by sinking earth

A sinkhole opens up in Dachengqiao village of Nengxiang county, Central China’s Hunan province, June 10, 2010. Frequent appearance of sinkholes in the village has neighbors jittery. Some 20 meters across, almost a perfect circle at its gaping mouth, the first hole opened up at a primary school this January and has expanded to 80 meters in diameter and swallowed a building. At midnight four months later, two wire poles collapsed when a paddy field suddenly caved in, followed by the most recent sinkhole, which swallowed a squat toilet in a villager’s yard. Local policemen have merely fenced off the area. Experts still haven’t determined what caused the huge hole to open up or whether it might keep growing. Neighbors and local media speculate there is a direct link between the sinkholes and the rains that started last month. [Photo/rednet.cn]
