Syphillis Reigns in China

Posted by w_thames_the_d on June 12, 2010

A few days ago, I blogged about the fact that Shanghai has more incidences of shypillis than any other Chinese city. Here is more..

“Beijing – The syphilis epidemic has begun to take its toll in China, with the number of new infections increasing by 30 percent each year. In May alone, the mainland reported more than 32,000 syphilis cases, including two deaths, making the sexually transmitted disease one of the top five infections in the country, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said.

The disease, which is actually easy to cure, was virtually eradicated in China in the 1960s, but remerged in the 1980s to record a tenfold increase in the number of cases over the past decade”

Chinese Cop Goes on a Rampage

Posted by w_thames_the_d on June 12, 2010

Add this to the recent spate of bizarre Chinese killings lately. In this one, it was a cop who was responsible.

HOHHOT – A policeman was detained after shooting three civilians dead and injuring a police chief in Taipusi Banner, north China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Saturday.

The suspect, Wang Fengliang, was a detective in the public security bureau in the banner.

The bureau got a report from a police station in Luotuo Township at 2 a.m. Saturday saying a senior couple were shot dead at their home, and the police suspected Wang was involved in the murder.

Police later found the couple’s daughter was also shot dead in a rented flat in the banner.

Wang refused to surrender, after the bureau chief surnamed Huo led a team of policemen to his residence at 3 a.m. Saturday. He used a gun to shoot Huo twice before he was captured by other policemen.

Huo was currently hospitalized.

Wang Xinle, deputy director of the regional bureau of public security, was overseeing the investigation of the case.
