A 48-year-old billionaire surnamed Tan, owner of a Hubei-based construction company, died on Friday after falling from a building in Tianjin, Hubei local portal cnhubei.com reported. This story is sad as a human being died. But it shows how bizarre this place is. This man went to collect a debt from a debtor, and then ‘fell’ from a 10 story building, uhhh sounds reasonable right?
chinadaily “Surveillance video shows Tan falling from the 10th floor of Tianjin Construction Engineering Corporation’s office building, 16 minutes after he arrived at the site. Although the police have ruled out murder as a cause, the conclusion is still being questioned by Tan’s relatives, who told local media that the deceased was going to demand a debt payment of up to 10 million yuan ($1.47 million).” |

You really have to worry about China’s record with product safety and their recent climb in use of oil and coal. Can mother nature handle all of this?

CCTV- Shitty Chinese TV
Posted by w_thames_the_d on July 25, 2010
CCTV is the Chinese TV channel or series of channels. The programming is horrible and usually has all this “feels good” bullshit that makes it unbearable to watch. The also do bs interviews that usually cast the west, especially the US in a very bad light. |

Football (Soccer) is a National Humiliation for China
Posted by w_thames_the_d on July 25, 2010
This is what I heard on the state sponsored TV channel. I thought it was odd to be so harsh about a sport. I know China has only gone to the world cup once, and when they went they did not even score a goal, but who cares? Well, according to them this is an outrage, I guess they believe they are so good that they must be able to play soccer.
A friend, however, clarified this point for me. They said that Chinese soccer is a humiliation due to the fact that it is overcome with corruption which has lead to its suckiness. They say that the Chinese team cannot win, because the Chinese soccer league has been plagued with corruption, and match fixing is so common that the government had to step in to fix it. If this is true and corruption is so rampant that it renders Chinese soccer useless, what does that mean that corruption has done to the Chinese ability to govern? |

Chinese Striking Only in Western Companies- Why is That?
Posted by w_thames_the_d on July 25, 2010
China has seen a spate of strikes recently, and they have all been in foreign owned companies. This seems odd that Chinese only wish to strike in companies that foreign ownership. It is not as odd when one knows China. Chinese companies are not so lenient, and have been known to hire ‘thugs’ to take care of those who are unhappy with working conditions, no matter how bad. Working with Chinese companies, one expects this, so they take it, the state owned enterprises will not allow this sort of thing, at least that is what many are saying. Maybe its just that it is so damned fun to bitch at the west or even Japan and Korea and their business practices, …. |
