A while back I noticed that whenever something bad happens in China and gets reported, the Chinese lose face and feel stupid. So they will then look to the rest of the world to find news that is equally disturbing or troublesome, so they can report it and presumably not look like such backwards nitwits. Case in point, yesterday not one but two Chinese airplanes had a fire on board, one while landing and one before take off. Thus, this makes the Chinese airlines look sketchy, especially after the two crashes they had last week and then the revelation that many Chinese pilots have falsified their records and are not pilots at all. thus, today in the wake of the bad news regarding the fires on Chinese airlines, on the front page of the China daily was the news of a plane crash in Venezuela. The report, imho was to say, hey look, china isnt really that bad… Now the plane crash in Venezuela is big news, but I just cannot remember the China daily ever giving them front page ink before…. maybe its just me, maybe I ve been here too long. |

Chinese Workers Polish One Step to Perfection
Posted by w_thames_the_d on September 13, 2010
Each day I take this subway I see these two old birds (they are pretty obnoxious old tarts) polishing the same freaking steps. This is no lie, it does not matter what time I come, but they are on that exact same landing, ‘cleaning it’. My point 1-if they are so busy cleaning it, then why the hell is it still so grungy 2- why not pay attention to the 40 other steps 3-does China have so many people that it can afford to put a pair of workers on each individual step 4- maybe its just me, I guess if I were being paid less than 100U$ per month to heft a dirty mop up and down those stairs I would be the exact same way |

Selling Houses in China
Posted by w_thames_the_d on September 13, 2010
I saw this the other day and thought it quite bizarre. These are photos of ads for selling houses in China. The people have placards on which state that they have houses for sale, and the prices. My observations 1- China has a butt-load of people so they will actually create work for them, even if it is mindless crap like this 2-In the states we advertise for things like car washes and bake sales like this, you know, easy spur of the moment sales but never houses 3-Who in the fk would buy a house or consider buying a house after reading about it on a 2×2 placard? |

China Fakes Everything, Government Aviation Agency Admits to Having Fake Pilots- Be Careful When Flying in China-
Posted by w_thames_the_d on September 13, 2010
In a somewhat confusing admission of quasi guilt, the Chinese aviation commission of China admitted that almost 200 Chinese pilots had ‘falsified their records’. The word on the streets in China is that many of these people had falsified flying hours, but even more were not even legally qualified to fly a plane! This is China, however and money talks, so these guys have been up there cruising the wild blue yonder of China for who knows how long. My take,,, 1- good thing they caught them 2- how many more are there? I am planning on walking from here on out…. chinadaily excerpt: The investigation into the qualification of pilots was conducted after the CAAC found pilots of one airline, which it did not disclose, had falsified resumes. Measures taken afterwards included revoking licenses and offering compulsory training classes to pilots who were found to have falsified their resumes. ..”The qualification of pilots is always the focus of our work,” it said.

Another Chinese Plane Catches Fire Before Taking Off, Thats Two in One Day- WTF is Up With Chinese Arilines
Posted by w_thames_the_d on September 13, 2010
Its no shocker that the Chiense had a horrible history of plane safety before the Olympics. Then, they had a run of good luck and new planes and had no problems or relatively few problems. But now, it would appear that the Chinese penchant for doing things wrong has affected their airline industry again. Twice in one day, (see excerpt and previous post) China Southern Airlines has had a fire in one of its airplanes. The chicoms are being tight lipped on what happened, but are assuaging everyones fears and downplaying the incidents. To me it is scary as you just never know the truth with these guys. A few years ago a plane crashed because water had been added to its gasoline just because the airline was trying to make an extra buck. The craziest thing of all is that I will be flying on this airline in a few days…. excerpt: |

Chinese Sanitation
Posted by w_thames_the_d on September 13, 2010
I just went to the restroom in my office building. It is a nice place, kind of stately. As soon as I enter I see the janitor dunk his cleaning rag into the urinal and scrub it, this guy has no gloves on. I watch him, almost took a photo, but he didnt care, he scrubbed the heck out of the urinal , both inside and out, and then rinsed it out in the sink…the sink where I wash my hands, the sink where guys brush their teeth…. Welcome to My Chinese Life. |

China Fact-Apocalypse in China- Beijing is Out of Water
Posted by w_thames_the_d on September 13, 2010
I can hear China’s ecology screaming and finally submitting, Beijing is out of water…In order to meet Beijing’s water demands, water must be diverted from elsewhere. Unfortunately it will not happen soon enough. Beijing is dangerously short of water (see excerpt). “Water shortage in Beijing will reach 200 million to 300 million cubic meters before the water diverted from southern China is available for use here, an official from the Beijing Water Authority said during a forum on Tuesday. “ |
