E-bay or Con-Bay

Posted by w_thames_the_d on October 15, 2010

Do you E-bay, or should I say con-bay as in Conjob E-bay. the reason I say this is that I know a ton of Chinese who have websites on E-bay, all purporting to sell the real deal, and ALL selling fakes.
My sister got taken for a few fakes and reported it to Gucci. The key, imho is to look at the site and check the English. I actually have a bit of experience in editing and writing (dont do it on my blog, but know how), and the mistakes that the common chinaman makes are quite obvious. Look for phraseology that sounds out of the norm, and misuse of articles (A, the etc) and also plurals, and you won’t get taken.

I just went on ebay for shits and giggles and found a site with low prices on ‘Coach’ goods. I do not know the owner, but checked the feedback and it was pretty much good but some of the negative comments said the goods were fake.
I would be wary of companies with campy names like American bargain, or dragon anything. My dad also got taken, he bought a new ‘Rado’ watch for 50U$- the real ones go for a thousand or more. I can get the same fake watch here for about U$10… buyer be ware.

China’s Coming Collapse- No Money No Money

Posted by w_thames_the_d on October 15, 2010

The chicoms keep a tight muzzle on the mouth of the Chinese money men, but some say a collapse is coming. In the report below, it is stated that Chianese bad debt, usually to state owned (ie. communist run companies that are nothing more than money printing mills for the chicoms on the take) are sitting on about 1, 000,000,000,000 U$ bad debt. Thats one trillion…

excerpt:
“BEIJING – The debts of local government-backed investment units in China reached 7.66 trillion yuan ($1.15 trillion) by the end of June, of which 2 trillion yuan is questionable, China Securities Journal on Thursday quoted an anonymous source as saying. ”

Poster Idea from China

Posted by w_thames_the_d on October 15, 2010

The old Saturday Night Live had a bit called ‘lowered expectations‘. It was a take off on dating services and the idea was like a dating service for ‘losers’, thus the name. The last image was of two frumpy overweight people walking off in the sunset, if memory serves correctly. (it reminded my ADD mind of this bike)
So anyway, this morning I was walking to work and this site just struck me. The bike looks pathetic and old, and mind you, in china these things cost about U$15, but the Chinese hoard them, nay , covet them, never let them go to waste. I can only imagine the fate that befell the previous owner of this contraption, probably had a blog…ooops
Anyway, if I were in the advertising sphere, I’d probably try to be an optimist and make a poster of this and call it something like
“If at first you dont succeed, try try again”

But knowing China, and looking at this bike I’d make a poster and say
“Despair is happiness, Ignorance is bliss, be blissful in your despair, or you may just disappear…”

Photo From My Rickshaw Ride

In China, its easier to trust the volumes of people going to work to decide how the economy is doing rather than the government. In other words, when the streets are full, its either vacation, or the economy is strong. I use this method, after all, who can trust the chicoms….

Living and Working in China- Taxis

Posted by w_thames_the_d on October 15, 2010

Beijing taxi drivers are pretty cool, they are straight forward and rarely if ever over-charge, imho. Today I had to take a quick taxi ride home for something and entered a taxi with a driver I’d met before. Here is his story and what he has to say.
He’s the son of a farmer, in China farmers are poor, as in they are subsistence farmers. His mom and dad are lucky to make U$ 1200 per year, they usually eat what they farm. He is 32 and married. He lives with his wife and makes around U$ 4000 per year. Of this he must give his folks about U$1000. with the rest he must feed and cloth his family and save up for a house. In Beijing, houses run for anywhere from U$50,000- to millions, after all, its all they can invest in, they cant buy dollars, foreign stocks etc.
The guy was super friendly and a great talker, as are most Beijing taxi drivers.
This is life in China.
