Here is an example of China’s odd form of communism/socialism. This is a 70 year old woman who has no cash nor social security and is forced to lug these water bottles all around town so she doesn’t starve. The people suffer while the government sends their kids to our schools and plan for their lives of luxury once they escape this place…

Moral Compass in China
Posted by w_thames_the_d on October 21, 2010
I would not say that China has no moral compass. I would merely assert that the moral compass in China has a different ‘north-south’ orientation to that which I am accustomed…. |

Observations About My Blog
Posted by w_thames_the_d on October 21, 2010
Ok its a new day and happy Bill is not around anymore, I think he may be out enjoying the city as we speak. So now I am thinking about my blog and decided to start off the day with some self-flagellation. Obeservation 1- I blog a lot! I mean a ton, as in, if I were you I would be thinking, “Damn this guy blogs a lot, does he have a job? What does he do, hole up in a bunker all day and think of ways to besmirch the Chinese…(actually I do have a job and ((digression alert)) have been extremely productive in China, I have a theory as to why. The short answer is that in places like Sao Paolo, NYC or Chicago, its hard to get things done, too many distractions but here, what else is there to do…) Observation 2-related to 1… As I blog a lot, I do little to no editing or rechecking my posts which can lead even me your humble author, to be confused by many posts I write. For instance, the sticky post above now seems to me to be quite wordy and repetitive, but when I first did it, I thought it was a stroke of genius. Thus, I would like to commend you, the readers of this blog for your mental dexterity in understanding me. For instance, when I re-read a post, I remember the context etc. and you, lacking that context have to oftentimes scratch your heads and wonder just what ancient Chinese herbal medicines I have been taking. So in summary I would like to close by saying that I love you all and would like one day to join hands and sing kumbaya… |

Courage in China- No Kidding
Posted by w_thames_the_d on October 21, 2010
I admire this guy! He is on the outside of this building washing the windows. Zoom in and look at the ‘rope’ suspending him. I floss my teeth with a strand of plastic that has a larger circumference than the thing holding up this guy.
Then again, look at the way he’s dressed, maybe he’s part of some elite chicom group practicing some ultra secret maneuvers…. |

Chongqing China- Beautiful
Posted by w_thames_the_d on October 21, 2010
Still going with the happy post idea… Chongqing is a city/entity that resides near Chengdu. It has some of the best hotpot in China and is known as they place with the prettiest women. The landscape there is incredible, it is often, unfortunately covered with smog, but the mountains and sights there are incredible. |

Chinese Happy Post #1
Posted by w_thames_the_d on October 21, 2010
Ok, due to the prevalence of comments suggesting that I am somewhat snippy in some of my posts (even my mother says, ‘gosh this is depressing, cant you find good things to say…”) – after I copy her on some of my posts, I will now attempt to have a happy or positive Chinese post day. I will do so, just to prove that I can do so, ie be positive, I am declaring a happy blog day starting now. I do not know if I will define a day as a 12 hour day or 24 hours, but it is beginning now. So, mean angry Bill will go to the ‘rage cage’ and be muzzled. After all, just as my mom said ‘if you dont have anything nice to say then dont say anything at all’- (digression, actually my mom never said that, she had a penchant for complaining which I actually thought was love) but anyway, you get my point.
So for my happy blog post #1 |
