Chinese Scientifically Illiterate- I am Surprised

Posted by w_thames_the_d on November 1, 2010

I saw this on the communist daily, I mean Chinadaily, it says that the Chinese suck at science, I am truly surprised.

excerpt:
“Fuzhou, Fujian – Only 3.27 percent of Chinese people have basic scientific literacy, which signifies a failure to keep pace with developed countries, according to a report by the China Association for Science and Technology. Han Qide, president of the association, released the findings of the report at the group’s 12th annual meeting. It was the eighth survey that China has conducted on the subject since 1992.”

WTF Was I Thinking In China

Posted by w_thames_the_d on November 1, 2010

My cell has tons of photos, I take them whever something seems like it would be a good shot for a blog post. But, I honestly have no idea why I took this shot. Maybe its the three guys who look kind of thuggish, maybe I was going to make a social commentary about Chongqing and how it is actually really gangster for China, but I dont think thats why I took it. But i’ve scanned this shot and honestly have no idea why I took this photo.

Chinese Toilet Paper

Posted by w_thames_the_d on November 1, 2010

Chinese toilet paper sucks, ;its so thin that if you want to uh blow your nose with it, you have to wrap your hands in it like a prize fighter. But thats not all. I’ve been here for 3 years and just noticed that a lot of Chinese walk around with these huge ten and 20 packs of the stuff. At first I thought they were uncouth, advertising their sanitary habits as such. But tonight I went to the little shop by me and all I saw was ten and 20 packs, they apparently dont stock the standard 4 pack. How did I not notice this earlier, and is this post really necessary?

WTF in China???

Posted by w_thames_the_d on November 1, 2010

I took this photo in Chongqing but then spaced off. I think I took it because I liked the guy’s outfit, but now looking at it, it looks like he’s holding his crutches and not using them. Actually, based on the photo, it looks like he’s moving pretty good. So shame on me for not paying more attention, or thinking of a better title for the post.

Confused in China

Posted by w_thames_the_d on November 1, 2010

Some guy named Liu Xiaobo is a Chinaman who won the Nobel prize and China is pissed. Today they said that he shouldn’t win it because he said a lot of bad things. One of the supposed bad things was that China needed to be colonized for about 300 years in order to become civilized. He then supposedly said that that amount of time may not be enough.
Jackie China said the Chinese cant handle democracy, said they needed to be ruled.

These guys are Chinese, what do they know about their people that we dont?

Chinese Recycling Cart

Posted by w_thames_the_d on November 1, 2010

The amount of trash and pollution or waste in China is incredible and it keeps these street cleaners quite busy. They are looking for recyclable goods I believe.
