China Deals a Blow to Genetic Research

Posted by w_thames_the_d on November 21, 2010

Throw genetic research out the window, cuz the Chinese have all the answers. I just ate lunch with a ‘friend’ who explained to me why the headshape of Chinese and westerners is different.
her “you guys have square heads and we have round heads”
me looking at the circle on top her shoulders, “uh yeah, i hadn’t noticed’
her “well its true, our heads are round and yours are not.”
me”really?” as if I hadn’t noticed this prior to her revealing it to me.
her” we chinese know why.”
me-“genetics?”
her”no, its quite simple.”
me thinking damn I hope the food comes.
her”its because of the way our parents lay us in the bed.”
me wtf…I simply stare
her”your parents lie you on your side when your a kid right?
me”i was too young to remember, it was many years ago.”
her”in china they lie the babies on the back, and thus the face just forms in a round pattern like this.” spreads her hands like a flower.
me..thinking you’re kidding right…
her”and your parents lie you on your sides, thus your faces form like this.” spreads her hands again.

hmmmm so let me do the math,,, 1,300,000,000 people here all have relatively round faces and in the USA 210 000 000 white people have more rectangular shaped faces ( I have excluded blacks as they have a different head shape, the Asian girl couldn’t tell me why. I have also excluded Hispanics as many of hem look asian (digression did you ever notice this?), so in essence, she is saying that all Chinese kids lie on their backs and all whites, which I guess would include Europe as well, lie on their sides which gives their heads their distinct shape.

I was going to ask her about genetics and such but saw a lady taking her kid out of the restaurant to pee on the sidewalk so I just gave up.

Chinese Still Drinking Toxic Milk- More Toxic Milk in the Market in China

Posted by w_thames_the_d on November 21, 2010

Around the time of the olympics, China had a milk crisis. They effectively buried all news of the crisis, as they are Chinese and saving face is more important than saving lives, or so it would seem. Thus, after the Olympics the chicoms supposedly struck hard and fast. People were killed (business leaders executed), sentences were given, and China was left to wonder just wtf is wrong with this place. Then, a year ago, the toxic milk reared its ugly head, and then again this year. So, it really should come as no surprise that once again, Toxic Melamine milk is alive and well in China.

The excerpt below talks about how some of the toxic milk has once again entered the market and the authorities are leaving no stone unturned to find it. My questions are
1-did they ever stop producing melamine tainted milk in China
2-how much of this stuff has been consumed already
3-is this what we can expect from China as one of the climbing world powers…

excerpt:
” BEIJING – Market regulators in Xiangfan of Central China’s Hubei province have started an “all-out search” for a batch of dairy products that is believed to contain melamine – a toxic industrial chemical that killed at least six infants and sickened about 300,000 children across the country in 2008.The administration for industry and commerce in Xiangfan issued an urgent notice on Nov 15 asking all local businesses to look for 50 packages of a type of corn-flavor dairy beverage. It is unclear how many bags or boxes a package contains. The notice said the beverage might have entered the local market, but as of early last week, local authorities could not find any trace of them. Tests showed that the melamine level in the beverage measured as high as 4.8 milligram (mg) per kg, according to the notice.”

Punishment for Tweeting in China

Posted by w_thames_the_d on November 21, 2010

Here is a post about a woman sentenced to a year in a Chinese labor camp for retweeting a message. The message was supposedly about smashing a Japanese pavillion. The thing is that all of the TV and movies here demonize the Japanese to an extent that the hatred for the Japanese is palpable- thus what does one expect. In addition, this woman is in that bizarre 40 plus Chinese demographic who are infamous for their problems in dealing with an open society.

“BEIJING – China has sentenced a woman to a year in a labor camp for “disrupting social order” by retweeting a satirical message urging Chinese protesters to smash the Japan pavilion at the Shanghai Expo, an international rights group said….”Sentencing someone to a year in a labor camp, without trial, for simply repeating another person’s clearly satirical observation on Twitter demonstrates the level of China’s repression of online expression,” Amnesty International’s Asia-Pacific Director Sam Zarifi said in a statement.”

How much do you suppose these Chinamen are making to do this task? How much would their western counterparts make for the same task?
