According to this site, a group of sheep can be called a Flock, or mob, or trip, or drove. Right now its lunch time in China so you will see a flock, mob, trip or drove all flocking to eat , all at the same time! I never figured this out, but in China, in my building, lunch starts at 12:00. So, what do the Chinese do? AT exactly 12:00 they ALL eat lunch, all at the same time, all fighting for elevators, all in the hallways, all talking all noisy, its maddening. Trying to get lunch at 12:15 here is like trying to hear yourself think in one of their fast food joints, its very difficult indeed. So my strategy, in order to avoid the masses, is to eat maybe 40 minutes before or after them. Its not a novel strategy as I have seen many of my western counterparts do the same. lets just hope that the flocking chinese never learn about this, I’d really hate to have to battle with them day-in and day out for a table at lunch time. |

China Photos
Posted by w_thames_the_d on December 5, 2010
The photo on the left is Chinese innovation. The owner of the motorcyle has devised a pretty cool roof for his bike. The photos were taken in Chongqing and it rains quite a bit there so this is a necessity. The second photo is an eatery in the same area. The food in CQ (chongqing is great). I’m still migrating photos to the other site http://justchinaphotos.wordpress.com/, so when I see an interesting one, I may put it here and comment on it. |

Re-blog on The Chinese Cultural Revolution- and Its Impact
Posted by w_thames_the_d on December 5, 2010
Here is an excellent reblog of someone who commented on this site. The author talks about China’s cultural revolution (1966-76) in which millions were murdered, all in order to prove who believed in/loved Mao more- at its most simplistic. The scary thing is that if you look at the photos from the post below or do a google image search, you will see the pure hatred and fanatical nature of the times. The really sad/threatening/worrisome issue, is that all of the current leaders of communist china, began their political careers or were in their political careers during this time. My question is : What type of people are running this country at present, if they were part of this legacy… excerpt from here: “When the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party kicked off the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution, it called on revolutionaries (so everyone that did not want to get humiliated or killed) to write big-word posters (大字报) with images and slogans that appeal to Marxist ideals. This is a brief look at the posters of the Cultural Revolution and how they, like so much propaganda for revolution or war, whipped up public fervour for violence. Of the posters I have seen, there are a few noticeable themes. (The captions, where there are captions, are translations of each poster. Where there is no caption, the words are my own interpretation.) First is gathering support for the revolution. Second is children. Third is military and defence. Fourth is reverence for Chairman Mao. I have added a poster of Red Guard taking down “counter-revolutionaries” and photos that illuminate the reality behind the posters.
Some points of note: Mao Zedong is always smiling. The people are smiling at Mao, unless they are busy destroying counter-revolutionaries. The colour red is employed more than any other. Red is not only important in . Mao wanted his last revolution to channel the energies of his cult, and red helped ensure he did. The first poster is of destroying the relics of the old world. Under the revolutionary’s foot are, among other things, a crucifix and a Buddha statue. The photo next to it is of a public burning of Buddha statues.” |

China and Opium
Posted by w_thames_the_d on December 5, 2010
The Chinese are humiliated by their past, or let me change that, they are fanatical about their past, but have an uncanny ability to forget the bad, or merely blame it on barbaric foreigners. For instance, much of the bad of the last dynasty is blamed on the fact that the rulers were not Han people (In China Han is one of 56 races- over 90% are Han people in China). Thus, anything that is not Han, including all other minorities, are second citizens, and treated worse than the minorities in the USA. My real question is how a group of people or a couintry as a whole could be overtaken by Opium. They blame the English, but that would be like the US blaming Mexico or Colombia for our problems. Based uopn what I have read, the whole coutnry slowed down and adiction was so fierce it was crippling. So, whats the problem with their inability to ‘kick the habit’? I have read taht certain races have a predisposition to alcoholism -ie Irish (I am, the race I mean), while others are not. So, is there a genetic component involved? |

WikiLeaks Claims Proof that the Communist Party of China Ordered the Hack on Google
Posted by w_thames_the_d on December 5, 2010
This is damning, but what will Obama and crew do, or what did they not do to avert this event? According to wikileaks, the government knew that the chicoms were behind the hack attacks on Google, but yet the US government did nothjing, will BO’s inverted testes ever descend?
” BEIJING (AP) — A leaked U.S. government cable shows sources told American diplomats that hacking attacks against Google were ordered by China’s top ruling body. The cable said that according to a source, the Chinese government coordinated the attacks on Google late last year. The cable says the intrusions were directed by the Politburo Standing Committee. The cable was released by WikiLeaks to The New York Times and The Guardian newspapers. A separate cable released by WikiLeaks showed a Politburo member demanded action against Google after looking for his own name on the search engine and finding criticism of him. The cable did not identify the leader. The New York Times reported it was propaganda chief Li Changchun, the fifth-ranked official in the country. |

“A” Qian in Taiwan- May not Be A Qian in China
Posted by w_thames_the_d on December 5, 2010
Today I was watching a show from Taiwan where they spoke about “A” qian (A chen), and used it as a term to mean bribes or illegal money. I dont know if they call it the same thing in china or not. (btw- in China the money is called “Zhong guo renmen bi” or RMB, Qian (chen), Kuai,) but I dont know what the Taiwanese call their money.
In China a hong bao or red envelope is how bribes are paid, so if you have to give a hong bao (hang baooo) you need to pay a bribe. |

Today in History- The World and China
Posted by w_thames_the_d on December 5, 2010
On December 5, 1991 a fighter squadron was lost in the Bermuda triangle. YOu can check the link for the specifics. On December 5 in China, not much happened. China was still a very poor and backwards place. At this time if you had 10,000 RMB or about 1600U$ you could buy a Beijing disco, as many did. So, if you had had the good fortune of leaving China before the tian.en.man horror, maybe you went to a foreign country, made realy money, came back to china and were rich. In the 90’s most people did not have money, I mean that many of my friends did not have, nor had touched money till the mid to late 90’s. One good friend of mine had a great job in 1998, he was paid about 400rm or U$60 per month! To them, being a millionaire was unheard of, they just wanted to be a ten thousand rmb person. Nowadays, they have many millionaires, corruption, western funds and stolen technology have assisted greatly to this end. |

From Wikileaks- Google Axed in China Becuase Chinese Communist Party Official Didnt like Search Results
Posted by w_thames_the_d on December 5, 2010
From wikileaks: basically the article below states that the Chinese were upset with Google and thus forced them to leave just because some communist party official got angry with search results besmirching his name. If you never considered the depth and breadth of the potential for abuse and horror that their government is capable of, then read this and reconsider. US embassy cables: Offended Chinese politician pulled plug on Google

Chinese are Tribal and Fearful
Posted by w_thames_the_d on December 5, 2010
I was watching movies with friends and they were blown away by the fact that in America, a friend or neighbor can stop by your house and ask for a stick of butter, or sugar. In China they dont do that. I dont know if its Confucius or the simple fact that over 5000 years they have decided to only trust their families and not much more. The tribal part of Chinese means they dont trust anyone, and dont ask for favors. Why ask for a favor if yoiu may have to repay it? Take for instance, I told my friends i was going to ask a neighbor if he was having trouble with this hot water and the chinese said I cannot do it, i dont know the man and cant trust him. This is life in China |
