Chinese Men Do Carry Man Purses

Posted by w_thames_the_d on December 12, 2010

I feel the need to clarify this for all of you who have never been to China. The reason I am doing so is that one of the frequent commentors to this site had a hilarious rant about China and the need to grow up, I’ll post it below.
Not only did I find the rant hilarious, but poignant as well, and then it hit me, if you’ve never been to China, then much of what she said, would make no sense. The person who wrote the comment has a great site called weatheringthejourney and along with the rest of us, has been sent to one of the rings of hell, I believe she is in the south and thus would be at the fifth or sixth circle, we in the north would be at the 8th or 9th. In any event, she made a comment on one of my posts and much of it is self-explanatory and pointed. The only thing that you may not understand in it, is her comment about man purses.
In this, she has nailed one of the most bizarre behavior patterns i’ve seen here. Chinese men carry man purses, and not just any purse, but one’s that seem as if they belong on the runways in shanghai, and such. Typically the older guys, being 40 but looking 60, carry the luxury models and pitter about like elves, while attempting to entice the younger set have a dinner with them, while their wife is away. The guys seem self-centered and somewhat ignorant.
The other group is the younger guys, maybe 18-25. These are one-child mistakes or new burdens to the country. They, lacking an identity, are attempting to formulate one. In the process, they have made themselves to be some gender-neutral mishmash of knock of man purse carrying men who trundle and bumble along the subways, getting in people’s ways, and looking frightened.
The incidence of man purses, in Beijing has decreased somewhat, for that , I am thankful.

here is a copy of her rant, leading to my rant above
comment-
“Harshness Warning
So China has their poor little feelings hurt? They need the rest of the world to kiss them better? Over half the population of China is male, when are they gonna suck it up and act like Men? I guess they are just too stinking busy carrying their purses and crying over a messed up manicure to do the WORK necessary to actually earn Real Respect from the rest of the world. They have to try to bully their way through their shame instead. It’s like junior high school on a macro level.
I did warn you.”

Double Shot- Vintage Truck and the Return of Ass Head in China

Posted by w_thames_the_d on December 12, 2010

I was looking at this shot and thinking wtf why did I take it. Then I was like, maybe its due to the fact that the truck is kind of pimp in an old school sort of way. Then I noticed that the guy on the right is the one from the post a few hours ago, ‘ass head’, the guy carrying his baby on his shoulders. So, I guess in this photo you got a double shot of sorts. (for ass head, see a few posts down)

Peaceful Rise of China- Oops Thats a Miliatary Show

Posted by w_thames_the_d on December 12, 2010

I took this picture of a show that frequently airs on one of the uncle chicom (chinese communist party) stations. This guy is dressed up in military attire, and seems like a decent bloke. The problem is that, as you can see, he’s talking about weapons, the military and such. If one could ignore his “Rambo-esque” gear, and the pictures in the background of tanks or missiles, as in this case, then one might consider him to be just another communist party commentator.
The truly odd thing of this show is the fact that to me, a person ignorant of Chinese, is that it seems to be very very very nationalistic. From what i gather, the host is frequently talking about China’s weapons capabilities and I also here a lot about the United States of America and Ta.iwan.
Its interesting to hear China go on about her peaceful rise and harmony, and then turn on the chicom channels and at any one time see shows like this or many others, that seem to stoke nationalistic zeal by bemoaning the Japanese attacks and occupation of China, or by showing China’s latest military gear. In the end, one has to wonder just how peacefully these people want to rise.

Chinese Pollution

Posted by w_thames_the_d on December 12, 2010

Here is another shot from the other day. At times the pollution can be so bad that it gives ones photos an ‘apocalyptic’ eerie feel to them.

Ass Head or Open Crotch Pants in China

Posted by w_thames_the_d on December 12, 2010

In China many people dont buy diapers for their kids, they just let them go au natural – without diapers nor underwear. What they do is to wear pants with a slit in them and when they have to pee and poop, the kid merely squats where he is or on the steps of a restaurant, or subway, or wherever.
As you can see, this man is carrying one such kid, the baby is not wearing diapers so it is easy to get a glimpse of his little tush while his father carries him, my only hope is that the kid didnt just get done taking a dump…..

Tits, Zits and Chinese Doctors- Or My Changing Body in China

Posted by w_thames_the_d on December 12, 2010

Not to be creepy, but I think my body is undergoing some abnormal metamorphosis in China, maybe its all some sick commie plot. I am a man, but seem to be morphing into much less of my ideal of what a man ‘should’ be. I dont know if its my budding ‘man-tits’, or the newly sprouting zits on my face, but I dont feel like myself anymore.
Long beyond the age of a person accustomed to getting zits, I checked and today I have three, to me its distressing. apart from this, my pendulous breasts announce my presence through the door before my nose, and when i stumble down the stairs, to all outward appearances, I could have played one ot the leading roles in Bay Watch. I fear that when wrapped in swaddling clothes, my body may now appear more feminine than masculine, a trend i’d like to reverse.
I’ve canceled my appointment with a local chinese witch-‘doctor’, a certain man named ‘zircon’, whose only claim to fame is a self published book in which he describes how to heal oneself by righting the four battling forces of health: blood, fire, capitalism and sin. I figure to forgo the one dollar ransom this man charges, to tell me that the flowering acne comes from my greed and wanderlust and three incantations from the Mao book should heal me up just fine. I’ve not called his offices yet, to confirm my cancellation, but hope he harbors no ill will. being born before 1980 he has siblings, half of whom are communist party members, the other half gangsters, I guess in the end they work for the same company.
Instead of seeing this wonderful man , I have self diagnosed, today I will be cutting back on my intake of lead, cadmium and melamine, I mean I’ll be steering clear of fruits veggies and milk. In the end I hope to reclaim my body from the pubescent teen it has become. If this fails I can always undergo surgery when I return to civilization.

Ant Tribe-Chinese College Grads Flock to Cities- Find No Jobs

Posted by w_thames_the_d on December 12, 2010

Nearly 6 million chinese graduated from college this year, in their little hands they hold useless degrees that were sometimes purchased, sometimes they cheated to obtain them, and many earned. The thing they all have in common is that at present they are less then useless.
China’s unskilled laborers have seen their relative wage increase over the past ten years while the educated have seen it fall. The educated flocking to the large cities in search of employment are called the ‘ant tribe’ as they flock and settle into horrible accommodations while searching for work. Cities offer wages 3.3 times higher than their villages, so they take the chance, come to Bejing.
I know of recent grads who have been forced to go back home, they cant find work.. What typically happens is that they stay in Bejing for a while, pay up to 2500 RMB or 350U$ for a 15 meter room in an apartment, and then cannot find work. Upon not finding it , some turn to KTV work or prostitution or are forced to go home (nearly 100,000 of them flocked to Beijing this year alone). For those who stay, they are rewarded with little to no pay and 6 day work weaks. This is a potential source of instability in China.
