China and Wars, a Historical Perspective

Posted by w_thames_the_d on January 21, 2011

Quote from a guy who lived in China over 100 years ago.

The Civilization of China (Herbert Allen Giles)

During the whole period of four hundred years the empire cannot be said to have enjoyed complete tranquillity either at home or abroad. There were constant wars with the Tartar tribes on the north, against whom the Great Wall proved to be a somewhat ineffectual barrier.

China and Law

Posted by w_thames_the_d on January 21, 2011

China’s Long March toward Rule of Law (Randall Peerenboom)

diminished by a low level of legal consciousness among citizens who are unaware of their rights, and the persistent influence of a paternalistic tradition in which the ruled are expected to defer to mother and father officials (fumu guan) much as children defer to their parents. Thus, even when citizens do know their rights, they are often reluctant to challenge abusive administrative officials.28

The Secret Life of My Chinese Panda Rabbit

Posted by w_thames_the_d on January 21, 2011

Here is my housemate. Her name is 2 2 and she cost me about 4$ initially. Since then she has proven herself to be an expensive little pet. Her diet consists of spinach (I think that is what its called, I dont like veggies so I neever learned their names). The ‘spinach’ runs me about 3-4 U$ per week, or the same price that I paid for her. In addition to this, she only drinks milk, not water, eats pizza (peperoni is her fav), anything made of chocolate, twizzlers, peanutbutter cups, fish, bread, rolls, mentos, cough drops, spaghetti, shoe boxes, shoe laces, carboard, plastic wires, power cords, her own feces, her hair, my hair etc. She has an eclectic taste in food.

ps. in the photo she looks angry but is actually tired and just resting.

Off Topic Cheetahs

Posted by w_thames_the_d on January 21, 2011

The other night I was watching a special on Cheetahs. Did you know
-a Cheetah goes from 0 to unbelievably fast 60mph I think, in less than 3 seconds giving them a better burst than a jet
-are the fastest land animal
-heads do not move when they run. It was interesting to see that they have an ‘image stabilizing system’- somehow their brains have a link with their spine so that when storming about at 70mph their vision does not become blurred
-they usually suffocate their victims as their heads are streamlined and thus they dont have the teeth nor large enough muscles in their jaws to kill with a single blow

This is What 2 2’s World is Like

Posted by w_thames_the_d on January 21, 2011

I have a rabbit who looks like a panda, she is a chinese rabbit, but dont hold it against her. Just like
1 237 000 000 other Chinese, she didnt vote for the current ruling communist regime in China. Setting that to the side, we can see here what 2 2’s life (her name is 2 2) is like before I take a trip. I try to recreate her natural environment by providing her all that she needs to face the lonely days without me.
I would be curious to see how much of this stuff she consumes within the first couple of days. Maybe one day I will hook up a cam. I would allow you all to watch but fear the video feed would require an over 18 listing as of late she spends much of the day with her head buried in her crotch.
Actually I call her, ‘her’ but am still curious about ‘her ‘ sex. My friend says ‘she’ is a ‘he’ as 22 is quite aggressive. I tend to agree with that but would prefer to think of ‘her’ as an affectionate little ‘she rabbit’. In the end it doesnt matter. She is a pretty cool pet, irrespective of her sex.
