“PURNA BASNET

HONG KONG, Jan 26: Chairman of Maiti Nepal Anuradha Koirala has claimed that the Tibet Autonomous Region of China and Macau have been developing as a new hub for trafficking of Nepali women. The Red Light Area in Khasa of Tibet is expanding and young girls are being ferried from the neighboring districts of Sindhupalchowk, Rasuwa, and Dolakha.
“The problem will assume epidemic proportions if immediate steps are not taken to control it,” Koirala, who was recently named the CNN Hero for the Year 2010 for her efforts to curb trafficking of Nepali women, warned. “I will raise the issue with China in various forums,” she promised.
“We have rehabilitated three girls rescued from Khasha region,” Koirala said pointing that the problem arose after border points with Tibet were opened. “They said they were taken to dance bars and cabin restaurants there and forced into prostitution. The incident of the return of two girls from Rasuwa after being forced into prostitution for a few months in Tibet has also become public,” Koirala added.”
