It’s China- Bribing is OK

Posted by w_thames_the_d on February 17, 2011

A good friend of mine was laughing at some guy from the UK. She said he didn’t understand business in China. I asked why and she said he didn’t want to buy ‘gifts’ for the government officials nor take things from her company. I explained that some countries and companies have la aw and rules against such things. The man was merely following those rules. She said,”Yeah, but this is China.” And actually she is right. In China there are no rules nor law, so in the end it doesn’t matter. The things I see here could fill a book and until you have worked with them or worked here, you really have no clue.

Chinese ‘Hospitals’ and My Freaking Hand

Posted by w_thames_the_d on February 17, 2011

Here is a shot of my freaking hand after the chicom witchdoctors got done giving me ‘injections’ as they say. Really what happened was the nurse set down her bottle of tequila long enough to lick the needle and then ask the doc to give her a hand. After the old guy removed his right hand from her butt cheek, he stubbed out his cigarette and then proceeded to lash my freaking wrist to the table and then they administered some ancient chinese medicine into my weakened body Proclaiming the operation a success they then left me alone for a few hours. eventually the needle fell out of my hand and this is what it looked like.

Lantern Festival Night in China

Posted by w_thames_the_d on February 17, 2011

Tonight is lantern festival night in China. This basically means that people have carte blanche to go outside and shoot fireworks and hope that they dont lose a limb. Aside from that they will drink a lot and yell and then go home and complain and scrounge around for some of those nuts they always eat and then they will wash their feet, as in China it’s a sin to not do so, and then they will think of how many hong baos they will have to give over the coming weeks, and then they will walk their little dogs, those brown ones with all the curls, and then they will not talk to their cats cuz Chinese dont like cats, and then they may talk to their wives, and then they will resent their kid and inside be happy that uncle chicom only gives them one and then they will resent hte air and water and rising prices and then they will sleep and then tomorrow i will be standing next to them on the subway and then they will act as if its just another day.

Happy Birthday Kim Jung Il

Posted by w_thames_the_d on February 17, 2011

Chinadaily ran this photo among others, reporting/touting the birthday of North Korea, Kim Jung Il. I guess being N. Korea’s only friend, they owed it to the man to give him some ink on his b-day. Incidentally his bday was 2.-16…

Chinese Toilet Paper?- No Shit…

Posted by w_thames_the_d on February 17, 2011

Yesterday I went to the Chinese ‘doctor’, or what the chinese like to call a doctor. While there I was bored and went to the john, which in China is always an adventure. Upon entering the stall, I noticed what appeared to be newspaper stuffed into the place where the toilet paper usually goes. I opened the thing up and sure enough, instead of toilet paper or Kleenex, the crafty Chinese had stuffed scraps of news paper to be used instead.
I am from Iowa and understand that if you are stuck in a field and have nothing better, a corn leave will do in a pinch. But I was surprised to see that in a relatively affluent area of Beijing, that they still use wadded up sheets from an old Sears and Roebuck, just as we did a century ago.
