Chinese Women Smart or Sick and Tired? Divorce in China

Posted by w_thames_the_d on March 4, 2011

The chinadaily recently ran a report that 70% of all divorces in China come at the bequest of the woman. It did not explain the reason for this large number of Chinese maidens who wish to sever the tether binding them to their life mates. Some of my friends have suggested that aside from infidelity and the fact that most of the locals dont ‘lay wood’ (their words not mine), as often as men from civilized countries may play a part in this phenomenon. As for me, I really don’t know. It would appear that both with and without their spouses they seem pretty depressed so does it really matter?

  1. Actually, it might be better to see what the divorce rate is. I was reading somewhere just a couple days ago that in the U.S. 74% of the divorces are initiated by women. I think it may be that men are more likely to go around thinking that things are great in their marriage while their wives internally feel like “The Scream” painting by Edward Munch.

Yeah I can see that. Re the divorce rate, I think the ‘whore of the orient’ Shanghai has like 20% or so, but in general I know it’s much lower than the west. I guess being a single woman in China is a fate worse than death.
