Ancient Chinese and Face

Excerpt from here The Civilization of China (Herbert Allen Giles)
Meanwhile, any member of the family who should disgrace himself in any way, as by becoming an inveterate gambler and permanently neglecting his work, or by developing the opium vice to great excess, would be formally cast out, his name being struck off the ancestral register.

A Quote About Ancient Chinese Soldiers

Posted by w_thames_the_d on March 7, 2011

From The Civilization of China (Herbert Allen Giles)
Chinese soldiers are often stigmatized as arrant cowards, who run away at the slightest provocation, their first thought being for the safety of their own skins. No doubt Chinese soldiers do run away–sometimes; at other times they fight to the death, as has been amply proved over and over again. It is the old story of marking the hits and not the misses.

Attacking Chinese Websites

Posted by w_thames_the_d on March 7, 2011

excerpt from here:
“BEIJING – The public in China may not like most government websites, but hackers love them. Research shows that hackers tampered with 4,635 Chinese government websites in 2010, almost a 70 per cent increase in one year. Many did so to express their political or religious views, authorities said.”

Hey Look at My Chinese Name Brand Product- Chinese Knockoffs and Taobao

Posted by w_thames_the_d on March 7, 2011

A Chinese friend of mine just showed me a product that comes from a German manufacturer, or I should say it looks exactly like the product from the German manufacturer, but it’s not, well, it kind of is…. wtf
Ok, China respects no laws and Chinese have incredibly limited morals. So the Chinese built taobao, which is a knockoff of a western site, as are all Chinese websites. And taobao sells stuff. Some of the stuff they sell is blatant knockoffs and they will tell you as much. But some of the stuff, allegedly, is made in the same manufacturing plant with the same process and materials, and then sold under another name.
This is China and this phenomenon is quite bothersome as well as common. By day the Chinese will make your products and label them correctly and by night when no one is around, they will make them and either label them correctly, or not and then sell them on the DL, or down low. If companies doing business in China do not know this then they have failed to do their due diligence and deserve what they get.
