The problem with an increase in food prices is that the chinese spend an inordinate amount of money on food. Thus, price hikes like this are detrimental to them, even moreso than to us in the states. In addition, when you are living on 600 to 1000 rmb per month, an increase of 5 rmb for a bottle of water is dramatic.
from the chinadaily
“Prices of bottled water and pork are climbing in China even as the government struggles to keep inflation under control.
According to a report on the website of China Finance Information, several supermarkets were informed of a price hike by bottled water manufacturers including C’estbon, which raised prices by an average of 12 percent.”
