China Number 2 in Worlds Billionaires- China Photo

This guy is not one of them. Lack of communist party affiliation and or guanxi (redundant) have precluded him from tasting the good life. So this guy, maybe as old as Hu Jintao, peddles this cart on a daily basis making pennies and living like 900,000,000 other Chinese.

Chinese Woman Burns House to End Relationship-

Posted by w_thames_the_d on June 2, 2011

A lady named Liu Xiaofang is from Henan province, got upset with her boyfriend and wanted to break up. So grabbing some matches she did the obvious thing, she burnt down their apartment….. Yeah, no ‘hey Liu, I hate you and I’m leaving, or not even a Lorena bobbit snip at his manhood. No, this Chinese lady decided that it was much better to endanger the lives of all who dwelt in the apartment complex just so she could break up with her boyfriend. Now some of you may say that this happens in the land of Reeses peanut butter cups, and hit has. But the difference is that if my gf is pissed and burns down my place, its a house so usually the ony one to be effected would be yours truly. But in China, people are stuffed into cement monstrosities like lab rates and heaped onto one another , very few houses are found. so not only was she breaking up with her boyfriend, but causing a potential disaster. But being from China and having the moral fortitude that they have these days, she had this to say, ” “I didn’t think much about the losses the fire might cause neighbors. (want chinatimes)”

Only 30% of China’s Mentally Ill Receive Treatment

Posted by w_thames_the_d on June 2, 2011

It has been said that in China only 30% of mentally ill patients receive treatment. I just wonder what ‘treatment’ consists of’. To me electric wires to the gonads or a billyclub up the keester do not qualify for ‘treatment’. But maybe my thoughts are culturally bound….

Free Lunches in Chinese Schools- Fears of Contaminated Food

Posted by w_thames_the_d on June 2, 2011

Today the in the news, they discussed the fact that some benevolent Chinese ponied up cash for poor kids to get a meal. that is the good news. The bad was that the meals are made in China, so the people are concerned they are toxic. China giveth and taketh away.

China’s Li Na Beats Sharapova, 1.34 Billion Chinese Cheer 2.75 Billion Men Go Soft

Posted by w_thames_the_d on June 2, 2011

This post may sound sexist and as if it objectifies women, and maybe it does but such is life, it will make sense in the end. China’s Li na played a better tennis match then Sharapove and won. But here is the deal, Li na with a bulletin board broad forehead looks more like someone who stands behind a quarterback in American football game. Bless her heart if she doesn’t play well, but lets face it, people appreciate beauty and that skull of hers is vaguely reminiscent of a toaster and well, is slightly unappealing.
You may ask what this has to do with sports. Just due to the fact Na is built like a bulldog I should accept her. Yes I should but alas it is much harder to watch her than the other, this is life..
Now for all women sharpening your collective claws and ready to strike me. It is not just we who do this to you, you are guilty as well. Why is Beckham such the big star he is? I dont play soccer, but from what I can gather, his ‘charm’ has been of great monetary value to the man, and if not he, how about Tom Brady, Joe Namath, you name them. These people have been able to monetize an appeal that strikes at the heart or loins of the oppostie. Why do you think the Williams sisters who look nothing less than she-Tasmanian devils seek to make that sexy look….
The truth is that if we are going to watch sports, and we have to choose, men would much prefer to watch Sharapova’s grin, smile frown, whatever, then the dour look of the lady from China. So imho in households across the earth, the collective wood of most of mankind was dealt a sad blow (pardon the pun).

Explosion in Urumuqi China

Posted by w_thames_the_d on June 2, 2011

Today there was an explosion in Urumuqi, the Muslim area of China. It occurred in the tech zone, but as usual the details were sketchy. I searched in Chinese and found little in terms of facts. The area, however, due to its high ethnic population is seen as a potential place of unrest….

Question About Chinese Residence Permits, Anyone Help!!!

Posted by w_thames_the_d on June 2, 2011

A friend has the following question, can anyone be of assistance, or has anyone seen this?

“I currently have a residence permit with purpose: stay with family (探亲, since my wife is Chinese). I have always been under the impression that this residence permit allowed for working in China. Recently, however, I came across some information online that this was not the case, that I have to change my residence permit if I want to take a job (and in that case have my residence permit depending on the company where I work).

Early Death Due to Poor Genes, Dirty Environment or Work Stress

Posted by w_thames_the_d on June 2, 2011

A Chinese news source seen below, blamed the death of two Chinese on work stress. Work stress here- wtf? Chinese always bitch about how hard they work, but to me much of what I see them doing when I do company visits is smoking in the halls, taking protracted catnaps, and chatting on QQ. What tires them out is the horrible pollution, and their constant comparing of themselves to one another. It is as if they can never acheive peace as their folks complain and they will never have more than their neighbor thus they lose face. In all the countries I have visited, I would say the work ethic here is pretty low. They put in long hours, but due to some odd chip on their shoulder, they are pretty unproductive and caddy in many companies.

chinadaily
“A 28-year-old reporter with a local TV station in Zhengzhou, capital of Henan province, died of a sudden myocardial infarction brought on by too much work, Dahe Daily reported. Liu Jian, a reporter who worked for the TV station’s legal channel, wrote a micro blog saying his health took a turn for the worse on May 17. He died of a myocardial infarction at home, on the night of May 23.
His colleagues and others in the media expressed their shock after his sudden death and said those in the media work under too much pressure. The deaths of Huang Lei, a 31-year-old employee at Shenzhen Evening News, on May 22 and of a 36-year-old editor at CCTV, who suffered from cancer, a few days earlier, were also blamed on work stress.”
