Time for a Haircut in China

Posted by w_thames_the_d on June 7, 2011

I am not a lazy person, I just prioritize my day differently than others. for instance anything i can accomplish while being supine trumps those activities that require me to stand, walk or move. In any event, my now mastodon like head is covered with a rich shrubbery of flowing locks that make me look like a cross between the cowardly lion and Bob Marley.
I guess tonight I will trudge off to the lords of the cut and take care of business. It’s really not that bad an experience if you dont mind adolescent boys draping themselves all over you while they wash and rinse your hair, the whole time trying to score some free English lessons. Lynx like they consider your body to be the Serengeti and eschewing male convention of not touching one another, these guys get too close for comfort. In addition they have this cheesey chinese plastic sheet things they drape over you so your clothes dont get wet. These things are built for the typical chinaman who is build like your typical toddler. The things are thin n the middle and have no sleeves to speak of so when LI pat gets done cinching it along my waste, I look like Ignatius J. Reilly, or so it seems.

So yes I will bite the bullet and reclaim my masculine skull, but I will not be happy about it.

Ad Ideas, New Site etc- Me Rambling to Myself

Posted by w_thames_the_d on June 7, 2011

I am sitting on the fence right now. I’ve bought a link to self host my blog but what a pain in the ass. You practically have to have a phd in IT to figure it all out. You’ve got to configure the PHP mail account and then go to the root director of the cyber gloat function and then use a linux compiler to debug- wtf?
Yeah no lie, I bought 3 names and will point all of them to this blog. But now, after beginning the task I am like a skinny little kid who has too much mashed potatoes on his plate on Thanksgiving day. It all looked like so much fun till I got my fingers into it then after 7 hours messing IT staff from my host over the weekend I want to violently jab myself in the face with chopsticks, but I am stuck, I did make the investment so ….

WordPress is cool, they treat you like a dolt and it is all user friendly etc. But if you self host you use wordpress.org which is like wordpress.com’ s emaciated bald headed sister. Its a really pain in the ass. You have to find plug in’s wtf ever that means and then configure stuff. Configure stuff, is like IT talk to make you realize just how dumb you are. Configure a plugin the lady at my new host told me, I am like if you were speaking to an American how would you say that?

So anyway I have the site and for the past few days I post here and there and eventually will migrate- IT word for move, this site to there. But now I am unsure. On the other one I can run ads, but then the gods of fate shit all over my day when I found out that several large ad providers can cancel ads to your site at any time. What this translates to is that you cannot drop ‘f’ bombs and the like or they can call you a bad ad risk. I say fuk that! If I cannot do as i have been doing for the past 1.5 years, then the dollar or two I’d get by running ads is not worth it. If metaphorically tonguing Google’s hole for a few bits is what it takes, then no thank you.

Anyway Amazon is a good option and a thing called flattr seems cool. I have heard adbrite is pretty pimp but I really dont know.

Bottom line, this post was nothing more that me talking to myself and a waste of your time. If I move the new site url will be http://www.topchinablog.com
I did get the others wtdevflnt.com and then decided that both of those were too short and I needed a longer an more confusing one so in a fit of lunacy purchased
http://www.understandingchinaoneblogatatime.com
Right now http://www.topchinablog.com has a few days worth of stuff and a 22 vid and the other two will eventually move to that site. But I am tired and do not know how long it will take. If I decide to ‘migrate’ my freaking site, I will ‘holla’ at ya….

83 Year Old Man Lies Helpless on the Street, the Locals Watch Him Die

Posted by w_thames_the_d on June 7, 2011

This is from chinasmack.com but I actually read a book by a guy from England who had lived in China over 160 years ago. He witnessed the exact same phenomenon in China at that time. The locals will attribute this behavior to modern issues such as the cultural revolution and declining morals, but somehting much deeper must be at play here.

Dec 29, an 83-year-old man fell down on a sidewalk in Fuzhou City. 2 passers-by attempted to help but were held back by others for “their own good”. With the crowd watching, the old man laid on the icy floor till his last breath. According to a witness Mr. Chen, yesterday around 2:55 P.M., the grey-haired old man was walking on the sidewalk when he suddenly fell over with his face down. Mr. Chen said there was no one nearby when he dropped. Since there were several gravels on the sidewalk, the old man must have slipped and fell over.

Chinese Quality

Posted by w_thames_the_d on June 7, 2011

Come to China, the good news is all the goods are cheap, come to China the bad news is all the goods are cheap.
China has a different definition of quality. In a country where the typical shelf life of a consumer good is equal to that of a peeled banana I guess I should not be surprised, but I am.
Lined up here you see the latest fatalities from a recent soiree to a local store. The Chinese ever so cost conscious, have perfected the art of making steel with the thickness and tensil strength of tissue paper and plastic that not unlike that secret spy ink you used as a kid, disappears a few minutes after use. So I get home, start to clean and this is what happens, the handles on Chinese goods, I forgot are mere adornments and not meant to be ‘used’ in any conventional sense. When a modicum of pressure is applied to them they disintegrate. I guess I should not expect more, after all, this is China.

Chinese Sue to Avoid Custody of Their Child

Posted by w_thames_the_d on June 7, 2011

Chinese culture is confusing. We hear a lot about its vaunted history, but little to none of that, if it were ever spectacular, has survived till today. King Solomon would have shit himself if he’d had to deal with China. According to legend two people were fighting for a baby and so he took a knife saying he’d split the baby in two, giving both parties half. The mother, he reasoned would not want to have her child cut up so would give in. But alas he did not live in China, the land of morals with Chinese characteristics, non-existent.
In Beijing a couple is splitting up and are fighting to not have custody of the kid! The Chinese consider themselves slaves to a child and thus do not want ownership and responsibility over them. The judge orded them to have an auction of sorts and whoever pays more money does not take the kid. What is up with this country.

Wtih about 20-30 million excess guys with no potential brides, this really has to gall the Chinese. On the bright side, about 2500 Chinese men married Korean women in that time….(also posted here)

Posted by w_thames_the_d on June 7, 2011

China has a ton of men and a few women. Lately they have been creating qutie a few more men. The problem is that these men will, well, they will have to go without….

In another blow to the Chinese, it was reported that from 1986-2006 marriages of mainland women to Hong Kong men increased from about 13,000 to about 188,000 per year. At this rate the Chinaman will have to get into goat herding
