Bribery Reporting Websites in China

Posted by w_thames_the_d on June 13, 2011

Chinese news sources claim that bribery reporting websites similar to those found in India have sprung up over the weekend. The idea, I would assume, is that this is a semi-discreet venue for those who have victimized by bribery to go online and expose the party exacting the bribe. Hmm, I see a few problems with this.
1-bandwidth, the incidence of such things in China should quickly lead to bandwidth overload.
2-what would you not report? In a country where a hong bao must be paid in order for a kid to be accepted into a better private school, or for a job or a governmental position, what would you not report here?
3- Aren’t they preaching to the choir? As all Chinese are aware of this phenomenon, then what is the good of elevating it as such? I guess it may have that ‘feels good’ therapeutic effect, but that may be all.

Chinese School Makes Kid Strip Naked for Touching HImself- WTF?

Posted by w_thames_the_d on June 13, 2011

China has some bizarre news, teachers, culture , mostly everything, but this is super odd. From chinahush a kid in China refused to go to school “…Because one of the teachers took his pants off in front of the class to punish him for playing his penis. The president of the kindergarten has come to apologize for it and agreed to pay back all the tuition fees. Tao Tao’s kindergarten has over 20 teachers with all the licenses and good qualifications.” WTF?
I think in most civilized countries the morals, ethics, propensities of the teacher would be questioned and he’d be gone. But this is China and the rich make the rules, the rest merely suffer.

Chinese Guy Allows Girlfriend to Walk Him Like a Dog in The Streets- China Photo

Posted by w_thames_the_d on June 13, 2011

Chinese dudes have it rough. I do not know why, but those who have left China seem to have a bigger stature, more western, but not here. In addition to this, the poor Chinese have about 30,000,000 spare men which leads to an excess of labido driven guys who spend an inordinate amount of time at massage parlors or playing video games. Or they might just do like this guy. This story is from weirdasianews.com and the idea is that this man (using the term loosely) has upset his girlfriend by not buying her a dog, so when they go outside, he now allows her to treat him like the dog he has not purchased. She ‘walks him on a leash and he carries her purse’.
I don’t know what you guys think of the local fare in terms of women, but I’d have to say that for a country with so many people, they have failed to unlock the genetic miracle of accessing or using the beauty gene here. You can walk for miles and miles and miles and look at the women and feel nothing but disappointment. This is not to say that even if they had straight white teeth and a full head of hair that your typical man would allow them to treat him like this, but at least it would make their bizarre ways more palatable.
Story from here http://www.weirdasianews.com/2011/05/26/bizarre-street-scenes-chinas-streets/
leash Bizarre Street Scenes on Chinas Streets picture
The Chinese Internet buzzed with opinions, drawing more than 1,400 comments.
Who are these two anyway? The man, named Feng, is math teacher at a senior high school who holds a pink handbag and yellow fan, which he uses to fan his girlfriend periodically as they walk along the boulevard. His girlfriend, Tang, was oblivious to onlookers as she “took him for a walk to see the outside world.”
The meaning of the interaction between the two is that she wants a Chow Chow dog, which he feels is too expensive. In lieu of buying her a dog, he is he is allowing Tang to treat him as if he were one.

Photo of Air Pollution in China

Posted by w_thames_the_d on June 13, 2011

In order to seem like a normal country, China has air quality standards. The problem is that air here is so bad that the Chinese do not even test for the most harmful air problems ie the smallest harmful particulates. But even with their relaxed definitions of pollution, most cities in China even fail to pass China’s quality standards. This is a photo of typical daytime smog in China. The pollution can be so horrific that it can cut visibility to less than half of one mile. http://www.topchinablog.com(also posted here)

Riots Over the Weekend in China- WTF is Going on Here?

Posted by w_thames_the_d on June 13, 2011

Over the weekend there was non related riots in Gugangzhou and Hubei province. The former was about police treatment of a couple of street vendors ( I will expound below) and the latter about anger over an official who died in police custody.
(I am nursing my black lung/emphysema/bronchitis so will make this a quick no bullshit post)

But first, if you have been following China lately you have noticed an uptick in the incidence of bombs at official buildings and civil unrest or riots. This obviously has the communist party nervous. The issue is that the party knows that once a country reaches a certain income threshold, then dictatorships do not work and people demand change. The bad news is that China has reached that point. Couple this with the fact that princeling and punch drunk fighter look a like Xi jinping is supposed to take the reigns of power next year and China is extremely cautious right now.
The last thing they want is an arab spring, but as Hillary said, the cards seem to be stacked against them, so they are digging in. For instance, in the case above in Guangzhou, the party sent teams door to door explaining that what they saw and heard vz the beating of the migrants was nothing more than a misunderstanding, this was meant to soothe the locals. And in Inner Mongolia, the trucker who killed the ethnic Mongol a week ago will be sentenced to death. All of this is to show the kinder, gentler communist who is nervouis, o so nervous about retaining his power.
The problem is that , well let me use an analogy. Lets pretend all of the worlds governments are basketball teams and they are approaching the final four tournament. There are still 8 teams in the running, but this round of games is all over. So the communists are like that guy who dies his face red and white and paints his frizzy hair a vibrant crimson. The only problem is that there are only a few minutes left in the game and his team is woefully behind. Now this guy has tickets all the way to the finals, but he has a dilemma. He has been seen on TV with all the face paint, the sickle and hammer, the red book and most of all the colors of his team, but he is losing. So this guy has a dilemma. Sure he can switch allegiances and roll with a team like Texas Tech who has similar colors, but we all know this guy to be a true communist. Thus, if he jumps ship, he loses face, he is a loser, but he’s invested so much time in the paint, the make up and the face time on TV. So the dilemma is what does this guy do. How does adapt so he does not look like an ignorant dumbass, but still get to see the final game? (posted from here)

Photo of Chinese Cost Cutting Measures

This is the type of housing that Chinese companies provide their workers in order to cuts costs. They literally house these people in tents and feed them rice all day, all in order to save a buck.

Clinton Pimp Slaps China- “No Role Model for Governance”

Posted by w_thames_the_d on June 13, 2011

Hillary Clinton rocks. She would have been a great first pres, but instead we got… well we got ‘good time charlie’. But Hillary seems to be doing good work. Look at this quote from wantchinatimes.com “Clinton said neither China’s governance nor its economic practice in Africa is a good model, implying China is implementing a “new colonialism” in Africa. When asked about China was a role model for governance, Clinton said, “In the long-run, medium-run, even short-run, no I don’t.” Hmmm Hillary, I repeat rocks. She is taking on issues that others fear to approach… long live HC!
