Riots Over the Weekend in China- WTF is Going on Here?

Posted by w_thames_the_d on June 13, 2011

Over the weekend there was non related riots in Gugangzhou and Hubei province. The former was about police treatment of a couple of street vendors ( I will expound below) and the latter about anger over an official who died in police custody.
(I am nursing my black lung/emphysema/bronchitis so will make this a quick no bullshit post)

But first, if you have been following China lately you have noticed an uptick in the incidence of bombs at official buildings and civil unrest or riots. This obviously has the communist party nervous. The issue is that the party knows that once a country reaches a certain income threshold, then dictatorships do not work and people demand change. The bad news is that China has reached that point. Couple this with the fact that princeling and punch drunk fighter look a like Xi jinping is supposed to take the reigns of power next year and China is extremely cautious right now.
The last thing they want is an arab spring, but as Hillary said, the cards seem to be stacked against them, so they are digging in. For instance, in the case above in Guangzhou, the party sent teams door to door explaining that what they saw and heard vz the beating of the migrants was nothing more than a misunderstanding, this was meant to soothe the locals. And in Inner Mongolia, the trucker who killed the ethnic Mongol a week ago will be sentenced to death. All of this is to show the kinder, gentler communist who is nervouis, o so nervous about retaining his power.
The problem is that , well let me use an analogy. Lets pretend all of the worlds governments are basketball teams and they are approaching the final four tournament. There are still 8 teams in the running, but this round of games is all over. So the communists are like that guy who dies his face red and white and paints his frizzy hair a vibrant crimson. The only problem is that there are only a few minutes left in the game and his team is woefully behind. Now this guy has tickets all the way to the finals, but he has a dilemma. He has been seen on TV with all the face paint, the sickle and hammer, the red book and most of all the colors of his team, but he is losing. So this guy has a dilemma. Sure he can switch allegiances and roll with a team like Texas Tech who has similar colors, but we all know this guy to be a true communist. Thus, if he jumps ship, he loses face, he is a loser, but he’s invested so much time in the paint, the make up and the face time on TV. So the dilemma is what does this guy do. How does adapt so he does not look like an ignorant dumbass, but still get to see the final game? (posted from here)

Follow the Moskba, Down to Gorky park…. Listen to the winds of change…. on an August night, soldiers passing by, listen to the winds of change….The CCP should have fallen in 1989. but instead lasted 20 more years. Hope finally this is the one…. oh God please make this happen.

Check out the chinese billionaire who is running as an ‘indy’ candidate in southern China….

Is that legally possible in China or even Hong Kong? You know I ‘m curious Wtd, do you think had the KMT defeated the CCP, a entirely different China would have emerged? I haven’t been to Taiwan, but from what I observe through photos etc. That it’s like Korea and Japan, or Hong Kong, dirty, but still clean, like American cities, littered but functional liveable. Like Vancouver….. Or would China still be a democracy in the way Mexico or Russia is a democracy, (corruption, government crime). Now that the end game pieces are falling into place, and what will happen to the CCP? Will they be harboured in some anti west country, tribunal like the Nazis, death by a violent mob ala Cersaru,…. And what will this mean for north Korea or Vietnam, or Laos. Will communism be crushed? Oh the possibilities. and will the revolt come from ethnics or the Hans themselves.

…. in the Chaos, and 50 more years of “Magical heavenly” heros in armor. lol. (blood violence and chaos). China into madness of barbarism and craziness, and a 3rd wave of Chinese immigrants escapes to “Hong Kong, Canada, Austrialia, or America)….And more starvation in China, when the very little infrastructure crumbles. Perhaps THIS time China will be humbled, as many other nations had when disaster struck and they had to gear their economies to peaceful means.

But the really scary thing is, that Kim Jong Il is going to do something very very stupid now in panic.

Great comments king…re legally possible, yes if they are non-violent ( I mean protests, look up petitioning in China- SSRN.com is a good source). But for the riots, I have no idea what will happen, but BJ seems pretty cool.
Re if the KMT had won, I will have to defer to you who seems more knowledgeable than I on questions of China. I would have thought it would have been like a larger Taiwan, but due to some research I am doing, i now have some doubts. The thing I do not understand is how some countries/regions like HK, TW or the USA can go to a democracy while others ie. India, struggle with it. As I read some reports (at ssrn.com see R Peerenboom), I begrudgingly saw the point that some countries cannot go straight to a democracy as they cannot handle the freedom, the example used was India V China. While I know that years of colonization at the hands of the Brits may have impacted what is going on in India today, I have to wonder about this place, ie if they could handle democracy or could have. (maybe the answer is situational or regional, ie SH and Guangdong could but the northern areas could not).
In my heart of hearts I think that maybe it is not so much the party who has enabled this growth, but the party has been at the right place at the right time and had they not interceded, China would be much bigger than now. But this could be due to my negative perception/prejudice of the ruling party here. Before coming here I would have emphatically said that the party was the problem but now I don’t have a good enough handle on it to offer a valid opinion. I really have no idea as to the answer. What do you think? You have lived here, you have seen them, what does your gut tell you ( I mean had the kmt won)?
Re your last comment, to me that makes sense as those places are filled with strife. The thing is that as I research I come across these same comments but they were written 20-30 years ago and the party, alligator-like manages to hold on to its leadership role.

We’ll consider that 1989=present will be the “New China”, or Deng Xiaopeng, a Goblin like Chairman…. declared that China was to move in a fundementally different direction, as he normalized discussions with Nixon, and began the limted economic reforms, with planned economies (yeah for Orcish ghettos, ie slums of shit pits).. such as building Szchenchen, border with Hong Kong. (a Mexi-cali, Cali-excio like border crossing). From this point 10 years after Deng secured his position after political infighting led by Mao’s successor after the death of Mao in 1979 (Mao’s lunacy is well know and expected).New China was on the vanguard of the average Chineses’ mind.

Note: judging from the sturctural engineering found in China it’s safe to presume (unless there’s is details to prove subjective that the State is at fault for “accidents”, that the Reds are at fault, due to quick substandard construction, or corruption and graft (see, “Tofu” Engineering),

In addition, bombings and acts of terrorism are inspired acts of violence (although condemned the root cause was indeed the subhuman conditions caused by the CCP).

Anyways, let’s examin the DEATHS from this period of New China. With the omnious Tienanmen Square massacre. Or as the Reds call it the July “incident”.

    1989 “New China”…

    Miscelanious deaths during this period.

-68,000 AIDS, and presumably Hepitatus and other Blood borne STDS, (tainted blood of the 1990s, practice still rises), Scores more infected. http://post.jagran.com/aids-deaths-on-rise-in-china-crosses68000-13
( A GOVERNMENTAL fuck up, however currently most “blood Pimps” and selling is illegal!, and the blood donations are “safer” and secure)
