By some reports, at least 18,000 ‘corrupt Chinese officials’ – redundant, have fled to other countries while taking as much as U$125 billion dollars. The ruling party in China is pretty pissed about this, probably they never knew being corrupt paid so well. Or maybe its like this. maybe thousands of corrupt officials left and those still here said, “hey lets blame them for taking half of the money we’ve got in our pockets.”….

Rioting in Taizhou China
Posted by w_thames_the_d on June 16, 2011
There was reportedly rioting in Taizhou, China on Tuesday. At issue were allegations of ‘illegal land grabs’. In China a land grab is where the locals who have a right to occupy the land are sometimes forcibly removed from that land without adequate compensation. In the past such behaviors have lead locals to set themselves on fire and or fight with the local authorities.
In this case, the riot allegedly broke out when a local governmental official , allegedly got into a physical confrontation with a local blue collar worker and struck him. The people from a surrounding village, upon hearing that a man had been struck, rushed to the area and surrounded the offending official. The reason for the anger is that these people feel powerless and abused and are no longer willing to suffer at the hands of the monied.
The result was that riot police were called in to calm the nerves of the locals.

China Flinches- Will not Use Force in The S. China Sea
Posted by w_thames_the_d on June 16, 2011
China has pissed off a ton of people around the S China sea, non the least of which was Vietnam. The Chinese accused them of encroaching on Chinese sovereignty etc. and the Vietnamese who proven they are pretty bad ass, stepped up and said they may be calling up some troops. In addition they did a little ‘live fire’ drill off their coast. China has come to see the problem with their strategy and is backing down, but told uncle sammie to stay out of this one….from here rebloggedhere

The Communist Party and Business in China

From The Party (Richard Mcgregor)
As late as 2008, the top of the list remained a dangerous place. The richest man in China, Huang Guangyu, head of a national appliances chain-store network, Gome, with an estimated fortune of $6.3 billion, was detained for alleged insider trading in November 2008. The first reaction to the arrest of people like Huang was not, ‘what did he do wrong?’, but ‘who did he offend?’
