Understanding China, One Blog at a Time

An American in China

China’s Jaded View of HIstory

China can be hyper arrogant as well as hyper ignorant at times. For instance, they call August 15, 1945 the day of

China’s Victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression , as if the Chinese played a great role in ousting the Japanese to being with. What most people call WW2, the Chinese call the war against Japanese Aggression. I guess that is what you would expect from a country like China, they still lack an understanding on the world, their place in it and truly important issues.

For instance, while the Chinese call the Japanese invasion an ant trying to eat an elephant, the Japanese were definitely in charge. While they may not have eaten the elephant, they had a pretty strong control on its nerve center. Ironically the Chinese movies which try to stoke nationalistic feelings show these brave soldiers fighting in the trenches, but eye witness accounts do not seem to corrobrate a strong attack by the locals, at least in the beginning.
