Some people in Hong Kong, or so I am told, are having a rough time adapting to the presence of so many mainlanders on their turf. The complaints of the Hong Kong’ers revolve around the fact that they perceive the people from the Chinese mainland as being somewhat dirty, rude but also coming to Hong Kong to give birth. As a matter of fact, the department of statistics in Hong Kong has said that 45% of all babies born in Hong Kong last year were from mainland mothers. What this means is that almost 40,000 of the 90,000 kids born in Hong Kong were from the mainland. The reasons for a mainlander having a Hong Kong baby are better passports, HK citizenship and the ability to live a more civilized existence.
