China and Corruption

Posted by w_thames_the_d on September 14, 2011

From integrity watch on China and corruption

“Wang Hua, a county-level official in Anhui province, agrees. “The whole system is rotten. I don’t know
who can save it. Maybe a violent revolution can,” he says. He also believes that he has to perform
corrupt acts sometimes to “save face” and because of “family relationships or friendship.” Wang thinks
the Communist Party is part of the problem, but that culture is also a reason. “We emphasize family
and friendship too much. I sometimes think perhaps that only revolution can clean this society.”

Chinese Restrooms

Posted by w_thames_the_d on September 14, 2011

mylaowai.com has some good insight and here are his observations.
Comment from http://www.mylaowai.com
“You know how in KFC restaurants they have a washbasin in the restaurant, for people who want to wash their hands? Not in the toilet, but in the main restaurant?

I seen people climbing up onto the bench for a squat over those washbasins, in full view. And I was the only person who even noticed, it’s that common.”

China’s Economic Crash

Posted by w_thames_the_d on September 14, 2011

Here is a comment by Brewskie. He opines about China’s economy and I concur.

From Da Brew

“Well, if you had just a couple of neurons in your head transmitting to each other – even if your head was destroyed by crystal meth, ravaged by Alzheimer’s, or just lobotomized by watching Dancing with Stars (after a hard day’s work at Walfart) – you could see, from a galaxy away, that giving $400,000 home loans to McBarf flippers was the dumbest thing ever attempted.

I seriously didn’t think anything could top it: “China’s going to rise and own our parade float asses!” I’d used to say. “They’re smarter, hard working; their going to innovate, lead the future; PLUS they’re building what we should be building – state of the art infrastructure!!!”

Oh well…. ’tis human to error. An old proverb says: “Don’t return to your foolishness like a dog returns to its vomit.” Seems like Chinese economics, instead, are returning for their 3rd helping of crystal meth – which is unknowingly several of their lost teeth ground into fine powder.

Factor in the banking and debt flyin’ around, and you swear: China is Japan on steroids… and crack, and PCP, and trenbolone; all stacked in a tiny brain with severely-damaged frontal lobes.

US Citizens Get Relief for Toxic Chinese Drywall?

Posted by w_thames_the_d on September 14, 2011

China sold the US some drywall and of course it was garbage and harmful to both humans as well as our buildings. It was no conspiracy, it was just China being China. The problem is that when people looked for legal relief they were hosed. Maybe now they can take another stab at it however.
from here:
“Attorney Mark Milstein said the new lawsuits were possible because of a ruling by a Broward County Circuit Court judge on Friday that essentially freed homeowners from the terms of a $55 million settlement reached in June with Banner Supply Co.
Banner was a supplier of Chinese-made drywall that lawsuits have said was defective and emitted sulfur gases that corroded wiring, contaminated fabrics and wrecked air conditioners and other appliances.”

Safety With Chinese Characteristics? Funny Photo

Posted by w_thames_the_d on September 14, 2011

This photo comes from www.weldreality.com The author of the site is a specialist in welding and critiqued Chinese welding practices, especially regarding the building of the Birds Nest among other things. The site is an excellent reference but also shows how far China must come. Or maybe they don’t need to, after all, we Americans would rather give them our cash instead of our own- we are like China- its all about the cash…
