China’s Great Leap Forward, The Dark Reality

Posted by w_thames_the_d on September 23, 2011

The great leap forward was a period in the late 50s and early 60s where tens of millions of Chinese starved to death due to ill-conceived communist goals and plans. Here is an excerpt of a book written by Dikotter on the subject.
from here:
“In all, the records I studied suggest that the Great Leap Forward was responsible for at least 45 million deaths.
Between 2 and 3 million of these victims were tortured to death or summarily executed, often for the slightest infraction. People accused of not working hard enough were hung and beaten; sometimes they were bound and thrown into ponds. Punishments for the least violations included mutilation and forcing people to eat excrement.
One report dated Nov. 30, 1960, and circulated to the top leadership — most likely including Mao — tells how a man named Wang Ziyou had one of his ears chopped off, his legs tied up with iron wire and a 10-kilogram stone dropped on his back before he was branded with a sizzling tool. His crime: digging up a potato.”

China seeks to Improve Human Rights

Posted by w_thames_the_d on September 23, 2011

As if one is peering through the ‘looking glass’ one sometimes has to wonder in which China they reside. According to this site China is developing a comprehensive ‘rights package’ to protect her people.
“China is developing a socialist theoretical system for human rights with Chinese characteristics.
Zhang Xiaoling, a professor and director of the Human Rights Studies Centre of the Party School of the CPC Central Committee, made the statement in her speech on the second day of a two-day forum on human rights held in Beijing on Thursday.”
But what this guy has posted seems to disagree. The author of this site and photo posted here has this to say
“The expansion and growing influence of unofficial churches has unsettled China’s rulers, always suspicious of any independent social group that could challenge Communist authority.”

which if true definitely does not sound like the protection of much of anything. Hmm, I wonder what the real truth is….

Must See Video

Posted by w_thames_the_d on September 23, 2011

Damn Brew knocked that one out of the park, excellent catch Brew-dog. Brewskie found this video
http://etf-investment-ideas.blogspot.com/2011/09/jim-chanos-china-debt-worse-than-europe.html

The video explains that China’s debt could be 200% of GDP due to the small town and provincial governments. In addition he says that China’s growth is pinned to building construction but construction is down and its true, you can see it. So the guy – Chnaos says that China is edging over the precipice. Actually if they crash it is bad for us all, but some of them really need to eat crow and big business needs to start telling us the complete story….

Link on China’s Impending Bubble

Posted by w_thames_the_d on September 23, 2011

Here is a link from Brewskie. It’s on blogspot so I’ll have to hook up my veep to take a look but cannot do that right now. But Brew thinks its good so I trust him.Apparently the link talks about China bottoming out pretty quickly and to tell the truth you can feel the slowdown here. In 07 and 08 it was crazy money across China but the faces are getting longer now and restaurants have fewer people. I can believe something will happen.

Quote From Mao on Socialism

Posted by w_thames_the_d on September 23, 2011

“all words and deeds which deviate from socialism are basically wrong” -Chairman Mao

Hmmm. Something tells me that if Mao were alive today some people would be in for some serious ‘struggle sessions’.

Eating in Style ‘With Chinese Characteristics’- Dinner Boat Capsizes in China

Posted by w_thames_the_d on September 23, 2011

Here is a pic of an innovative Chinese ‘theme park/diner’. This boat, which sells ‘food’ or the Chinese approximation thereto had a little ‘whoopsie’ moment as the thing ran into another boat an capsized. Although no one was hurt, I’m sure it was quite a scare for the locals. The reason for the crash was not given, but pushed to speculate I’d offer ‘stupidity’ as the cause.

Beijing’s Air is 173 or Unhealthy Today-China Pollution Photo

Posted by w_thames_the_d on September 23, 2011

According to this site, the air in Beijing is rated at 173 or unhealthy.

To those of us in China it means ‘hey the suns out today!’

To people who live in civilization it means ‘ where are the surgical masks and MOP gear, I refuse to breathe that sludge!’
