Foreign Invader Lands in China?

This woman is wearing the latest in Chinese ‘scare-ware’, things that humans typically do not use to cover themselves. The welders skull cap that is draped over her head is what the locals call ‘fashion’.

China’s Inflation Keeps Climbing?

Posted by w_thames_the_d on May 11, 2012

Here is a snippet from this site “The Beijing office of the Taiwan Strait Tourism Association is having trouble working out the details for a new lease. The lease is set to expire next year, and the landlord wants to increase the rent from 188 yuan to 360 yuan (US$30 to $57) per square meter, according to our Chinese-language sister paper Want Daily.”

The excerpt shows that inflation is rising. But the scmp.com has said that this is untrue, that inflation is on the decline. I know a ton of companies who are forced to move due to rental pressures in the center of Beijing, which to me points more to the former rather than latter assertion. Sometimes you really have to wonder how a country whose rental prices increase by 50% can only experience a moderate level of inflation.

Some would say that the reason is the basket of goods from which the cpi is derived does not include rental property of businesses which is fair enough. But all property rents are increasing. The trend, imho, is an uptick of from 20-30% per year.

Some would say that the weight of renting is a small percentage of the basket of goods for the Chinese cpi, to which I say fair enough. But then I would ask how it is that the cpi is low when the price of most veggies is from 20-100% higher?

The truth is that the cpi, in true communist vodoo fashion, is calculated by some magic undertaken behind large doors guarded by men sworn to uphold the communist party doctrine. This magical cpi is as much fact as things like rule of law in China and Chinese innovation. The reality of living in china is much different from the reality that those from civilization are told.

Rape of Nanjing Never Hppened?

Posted by w_thames_the_d on May 11, 2012

Interesting story about the alleged rape of nanjing

Excerpt
Certain Japanese nationalists and historical revisionists have claimed that the massacre was either wholly fabricated or exaggerated for propaganda purposes.

One such advocate of the fabrication theory is Satoru Mizushima, a Japanese film director, whose film “The Truth About Nanjing” depicted the filmmaker’s account of what actually happened in 1937. Mizushima claims that the Nanjing Massacre and the so-called butchery of Chinese people by the Japanese Imperial Army, is nothing more than political propaganda. (3)
