China, Land of Forbidden Places-Tibet off Limits to foreigners

Posted by w_thames_the_d on June 7, 2012

The Chinese just bombed some people in Xinjiang, allegedly, and now they have put Tibet off limits for travelers. Keats see, according to China, I can travel to within 150 miles of the Phillippines in those islands and it is ok, but I cannot go to that other hunk of stolen land-tibet. No wonder all the monks are killing themselves.
Story
China has banned foreign visitors to Lhasa following two Tibetan self-immolations in the nation’s capital. AP quoted travel agents in Tibet as saying the ban could be due to Saka Dawa festival, a month long commemoration of Buddha’s birth, enlightenment and passing, that traditionally attracts many Buddhist pilgrims.
