Japan to Name Panda Twins After Disputed Islands

“Tokyo governor Shintaro Ishihara has suggested naming the baby twins of Chinese panda Zhen Zhen, housed in the city’s Ueno Zoo, after an East China Sea island group that is claimed both by Japan and China, reports our sister newspaper China Times.
Li Li and Zhen Zhen were given to Ueno Zoo last February by the Chinese government. After the two pandas mated in March, Zhen Zhen is believed to be pregnant with twins.
“I am not really interested in this news (about the pregnancy),” Ishihara told reporters before the pregnancy is confirmed on July 3. “But why don’t we name the twins ‘Sensen’ and ‘Kakukaku’ before giving them back to China?”
