An American in China

Olympics and Medal Count

Posted by w_thames_the_d on August 7, 2012

Is it just me or did they invent games for the Olympics that the Chinese could win? It seems to me that when I was but a tyke, the Olympics consisted of real sports such as gymnastics, running, jumping, wrestling and such. But recently I have seen team China winning events that can barely be called a sport. For instance, since when was ‘penny rolling’ and Olympic event?

Yes, each day we see that team China is climbing the charts in medal count and doing so in such vaunting events as chopstick drop and cellphone screech. Again, my question is, how many freaking events make up modern day Olympics and who voted on allowing them in?
