Posted by w_thames_the_d on August 8, 2012

So let me see if I understand this. China has 1,000,000,000 or one billion more people than the USA, but only a few more medals.
You would think that in those extra one billion people they could have. Found a few more medal contenders.

The EU ‘Just Says No’ To Toxic Chinese Toys

Posted by w_thames_the_d on August 8, 2012

The rise of China has brought many things to the world. Smog and ignorance notwithstanding, it has also brought us tons of toxic toys-China’s specialty.
The European Union, who loves their kids, have taken preventative measures to protect their loved ones from the vile Chinese made junk. As such, they have enacted laws specifically geared towards Chinese toys.
Just how messed up is a country which has forced other nations to monitor only their stuff?
excerpt
EU experts say many toys made in China are fakes and contain toxic or carcinogenic substance and using the most stringent regulation on toys in July. The European Commission also spent US$87,000 to produce a promotional videos to promote its new safety guideline for toys.
Toys made in China such as ducks containing small detachable parts, buoys and shoes are dangerous to children, said the commission. Since July 20 this year, it has implemented strict safety regulation on toys, which requir all toys entering the EU to be labeled with an official CE mark.

China’s Death Trains

Posted by w_thames_the_d on August 8, 2012

The King puts his two cents in about China’s high speed death, aka railway

From The King
“I will be adding more of China’s failed stuff under “wikipeida’s article White Elephants. (a prejorative of expensive and fancy but unfeasable and or failures). For instance…. West Edmonton Mall, the “largest” mall in the world up until the late 90’s, which occasionally had to be bailed out, or China’s bullet train… or their ghost cities of souless emptiness….

China’s ambitious CRH project, was beset with numerous technological and safety problems, allegations of mass corruption, low ridership from high fares, and encumbered with enormous debt accounting for 70% of the assets of the China National Railways ministry [5]. These problems, such as a corruption prior to a high profile trainwreck killing 40 people failed to attract funding from fiancers and other sources within the Chinese economic apparatus. With exhaustion of funding from stimulus packages from 2009, and global an economic crisis [6] the CNR has trouble securing funding for future growth of the CRH network and future growth has been halted or delayed as being cost prohibitive.”
