A bit ago we had a car bombing in Tiananman right beneath Mao’s smirking face. This was followed by a bigger bombing in Taiyuan, China. Interestingly enough, such attacks frequently occur in Xinjiang, China.

The suicide attack in Tiananmen Square in the heart of China’s capital on Oct. 28 can be compared to any of 200 similar incidents that occurred in China’s Xinjiang Uyghur autonomous region last year, according to the Chinese-language Oriental Outlook.

Five people died on Oct. 28 when a jeep drove into a crowd of people in front of the Tiananmen rostrum in Beijing before its occupants set it on fire. The dead included two tourists, one of them a Philippine national, and the three perpetrators, while 40 people were injured. Meng Jianzhu, head of the CPC’s Central Politics and Law Commission, said the East Turkestan Islamic Movement, which calls for an independent Xinjiang for the Muslim Uyghur ethnic group in China’s northwest, was behind the attack.
