Foxconn does some work for Apple as well as others. I know some of the assembly for the Iphone and I think some of its guts are made by them. Anyway, they had an issue a while ago with stolen Iphones and a ‘suicide’ in Shenzhen China. According to the article below, 2 of their workers ‘committed’ suicide in the same day in Shenzhen China. Man this place is a bizarre place to work..

“Two Foxconn employees were separately found dead Wednesday in Shenzhen, according to http://www.nfdaily.cn.

A man was found dead by his parents on Thursday morning in Guanlan Zhangge village, and a woman committed suicide by jumping from a work building in the Guanlan business area in Shenzhen.

Representatives from Foxconn, the Taiwan-based computer company, told reporters the dead woman was a front-line worker hired last December. Local police started their investigation, and representatives from Bao’an police station excluded the possibility of murder, according to the scene investigation.

The number of staff deaths at Foxconn this year has climbed to six, and five of those were caused by jumping off a building.

Girl stabbed with Needle in Chinese Store

Posted by w_thames_the_d on April 1, 2010

I heard of this in Xinjiang, but not elsewhere. This is from Chinadaily

A 13-year-old girl has been stabbed in the leg with a needle while touring a crowded supermarket, the Beijing Times reported today.

Xiao Xia was shopping in the northeast Wangjing neighborhood of Beijing with her mother when she felt a pricking pain in her right leg while moving through a busy passage on Saturday night.

Xiao Xia’s mother Mrs. Ding took her daughter to a restroom and found a needle wound. She immediately informed security and police.

Xiao was taken to Wangjing Hospital for tests although the wound did not show any immediate abnormal reactions, but medics said more tests would be required in the future as diseases like Aids can not be detected right away. “It never happens in our supermarket, and we hope the police can find the person who pricked people here,” said a worker of the supermarket.

Posted by w_thames_the_d on March 30, 2010

This is very disturbing, the chinadaily posted photos of them fishing out the babies bodies here, I don’t think it is worth seeing, but makes this story much more dramatic. If you are religious, I think now would be a good time to pray for them.

“21 infant bodies have been discovered under a bridge in the suburb area of Jining city of east China’s Shandong province on Tuesday.

Eight of dead babies had labels attached to their feet with information saying they had been treated and declared dead in two local hospitals. No clues were found on the remaining bodies.

A police investigation is underway and the local environment authority has dispelled public worries over the river water as people fear it become polluted by the dead bodies.
