Cool Post on How They Make Alcohol in China

I read a cool blog post from this site. The guy has great photos and talks about some of China’s alcohol is made.

These gentlemen are scooping the slosh from the boilers. Baijiu, as we learned, is typically made from 5 grains, millet, sorghum, rice, wheat, and rye. Different brands vary the recipe. In this factory, the slosh is boiled twice and allowed to cool and ferment.

Here the slosh is cooled over this platform with air blown under it by a fan.

The slosh eventually cools down and it is allowed to ferment for a certain period of time.

Nasty Nail in China

If you have ever been to China, you have no doubt seen that “nasty nail”. Its a disgusting nail about the length of a box elder bug- those huge cock roach looking things.

The nail is usually yellowish in color and its owner has a round head and limited intellect. He reminds me of the guy in the 80’s  who walked around with about 4 pagers on his belt and polyester pants and greasy hair.

oh but I digress. In reading about the history of China, I found that by letting the pinky nail grow, the owner of the nail was showing that he was not a working man, ie. a guy behind a plow couldnt grow his nail that long. So, in modern times i guess they still think wearing the nail like that is chic….

Son of The Leader of China’s Communist Party Providing Port Security Services in the USA-WTF?

This information is from judicialwatch.org China’s president and leader of the Communist Party has a son. This kid has a company which provides security systems for airports and is called Nuctec.His kid , Hu Haifeng, had problems in Nambia as he was part of a huge bribery scandal, which of course in China any news thereof was blocked by the communist party. Los Angeles Harbor Department then contracted with Duly Research. Duly research then enlisted China’s Nuctech. Government Security News (GSN) reported that while George Cummings, the Director of Homeland Security with the Port of Los Angeles, claimed to have “no heartburn” over the contract in fall 2008, by February 2009 the Port planned to cancel the agreement due to contract default. It is not clear whether Nuctech was able to outbid other companies due to government subsidies and was in fact engaged in dumping; or whether Nuctech engaged in reverse engineering and China will be able to gain access to images from the device. Equally disconcerting is the recent allegations of graft involving Nuctech in Namibia. Meanwhile, Hu Haifeng, Jintao’s son, has been promoted to Communist Party Secretary of Tsinghua Holdings. Judicial Watch originally solicited records from the Port of Los Angeles and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). DHS fielded the request to a component not responsible for the contract resulting in a “no records” response. Judicial Watch then submitted the request to Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the grantor of funding. FEMA proceeded to lose the request and prolonged its response over 6 months to finally declare that it did not have responsive records. Rather than allaying concerns about the contract, FEMA’s response has provoked suspicions and the matter is under appeal. The documents obtained from the Port of Los Angeles further stoke these suspicions.”

This article from The Hindu, is about the Indians lauditing the Chinese system for choosing judges and how that works. First off who in their right mind studies the judicial system in China as a benchmark- Sudan, North Korea? The article correctly states that in China one does not have to major in law to be a judge. The article sees this as a positive. Hmmm, I majored in econ, and fail to see how that would have qualified me to sit on the bench in judgment of pressing legal matters at the tender age of 23, but then again, most trials in China are nothing more than a rubber stamp of a decision the party has already made….

China Admits Corruption is on the Rise-

“There was a slight fall in the number of people arrested and the volume of public prosecutions last year but a spike “duty crimes” involving such things as bribery and corruption.

Beijing Municipal People’s Procuratorate disclosed the information during its annual review.

The procuratorate said it issued warrants for 20,894 arrests and indicted 26,485 people during 2010. …

The authority also refused to issue 1,791 arrest warrants and chose not to prosecute 456 people. The conviction rate in cases that were prosecuted was 99.9 percent.”
