Posted on Tianya,

Here is a shot of women from Chengdu China who are campaigning for safe driving. In China now there is a big problem with people born after the ’80’s being spoled, driving cars with no regard and killing innocent pedestrian. The people are usually only children of rich businessmen. These women are campaigning against this.

China is Closed- Go Away

Posted by w_thames_the_d on August 6, 2010

China likes to remain a mystery to the rest of us, it has to do with their general fear of the unknown and foreigners. As a matter of fact, up until about 300 or 400 years ago, teaching Chinese to a foreigner was prohibited.

Living and Working in China- Typical Day, Birds, Sunshine, One-Child Policy kids, Neighborhood Hookers…

Posted by w_thames_the_d on August 6, 2010

Today was a splendid day in Beijing, at least in terms of the weather. I had the chance to get off early and took a leisurely stroll around the ‘hood’ as it were. I like in a pretty good area of Beijing, lots of rich Chinese and many expats.
The sounds of one-child policy children could be heard as groups of elderly people shepherded and herded them about as if they were the most precious entity on the planet. The sight of it was heartwarming.
And then I strolled some more and passed by the neighborhood brothel, or ‘hair salon’ as they like to say in China. Ooops did I say that, a brother, in broad daylight? Yes, well before I disparage the good image of any establishment, let me clarify that point. I took a stroll around my neighborhood filled with mothers sons, daughters, and grandparents, and then passed by the local ‘barber shop’. It has red spinning lights on the outside, and pink neon on the inside. I have never seen anyone cutting their hair inside, but always see women in tight skirts and tons of makeup, but who am I to judge.
Prostitution is illegal in China, but so are bribes, so I would like to think that it is just me and the place is legit. The problem is that I have been here long enough, that I seriously doubt it….

Posted by w_thames_the_d on August 6, 2010

This guy is selling his kids to pay for a kidney transplant. What kind of values does a society like this have? i have heard of countries where people will sell parts of themselves to save their kid, but never sell their own children!

These houses are thrown up in China in little time by poorly trained workers. Thus, you get what you see here. A poorly constructed and dangerous Chinese eye sore.
