Chinese on China

Posted by w_thames_the_d on August 7, 2010

Yesterday I was talking to a friend. The conversation was interesting. In China they feel that many foreigners who come to China are losers. I asked to explain and basically was told that a foreigner living in China is a loser because they are forgoing all the good of their country to come to this place. My 2 cents, they have a low esteem for their own country, and its actually a pretty good place to live. Secondly , I explained that it is somewhat easier for use to stay here. For instance, our ‘plan B’ is to return home, and in my case that means to return to the land of milk and honey- USA. And the USA, as a plan B is not a bad option. Thus, we have choices and good ones at that. Life is like a negotiation, your bargaining position is only as good as your options, they way I see it, our options are outstanding. Or maybe I am just seeing life through rose colored glasses, and we are all in effect losers….

Come and Get it, Chinese Hospital Offers Discount Abortions

Posted by w_thames_the_d on August 7, 2010

This is sad, instead of respecting lives or teaching people to use protection, this hospital is offering a student discount for abortions in China.
chinadaily excerpt”CHONGQING: A hospital promotion offering 50 percent off the cost of abortions to teens who show their student ID has sparked a debate about the seemingly casual attitude toward abortions in China.

Fliers for “Students Care Month” at Chonqing Huaxi Women’s Hospital show a schoolgirl beside an explanation that their procedure is a “painless and quick operation that will not stretch your womb, nor do any damage. Your studies will not be affected afterward.”

Living and Working in China- Work

Posted by w_thames_the_d on August 7, 2010

Chinese companies like to manage through fear and obfuscation. They like to keep the workers wondering about their job security as they dont want them to feel too powerful. In addition, they like obfuscation as it serves the same purpose as well. It also works to hide any potential ignorance of the bosses as they are expected to have all the answers.
